Not as long as lots on here, but I'll post anyway. Part ex-d this on 9th October 2012, so they've had it 5 months. We got £9375 p/x, but only paid £10,280 brand new, so they were always having a laugh at £10,999!!! http://www.croylandcarmegastore.co.uk/used-cars/se...

There's a garage in Swadlincote that has had a green Beetle for sale for over 20 years.
It was there in the early 90s when I worked in the area, I checked on Google Streetview recently and it's still there.

I remember being in Honda pricing up a new Accord, when the sales lady told me they'd got one coming up to 90 days and it would be available at a good discount.
So I asked what the car was they'd had in stock longest, it was a Salmon Pink Jazz at 420 days!!

If it was the latest year of production (1980, that must have been there approx 9 years. Not possible. When a car is newly registered then it goes on the current plate. Unless it's 3 years old, then it will go on an age related. So if a 1980 MG was first registered in 1989 then it will go on a 1980 plate, but if registered in 1983 before its third birthday then it goes on a 83 plate. Take the Capri 280. Came out on a D plate. Most are D's. Some are E's. There are 3 F's, and 1 G plate. Rumour has it there are three unregistered examples, and if you went to plate one of these it would simply go on a D plate as it's after the three year rule.

If you use them as intended, ie outside in all weathers all year round they won't last forever without rust. It may be limited if you never use it or store it in a heated space of course.

My Dad has had two brand new Fords, and I've ended up having them myself after he bought his next car. He was religious about washing them thouroughly, especially in winter, I mean getting unerneath and all under the wheelarches with a pressure washer regularly. Plus lots of wax on the topsides. First was a Mk.3 Fiesta, bought in 1993. I sold this car in 2001 with 140,000 miles on it - and I promise you, it had no rust anywhere - not even on the inside lip of the wheel arches. Next was a Mk.4 Fiesta bought in 1998. Again, after studious maintenance, I sold this one in 2007 with 168,000 miles. No rust anywhere - in fact the floorpans and body underneath was almost mint. In fact I had the screen replaced on this one, and the guy who replaced it couldn't believe the condition of the frame once the glass had been removed - it was like new. He said normally once the screen is out, the frame is rusted to buggery. With both cars, MOT testers could not believe the condition and joked that the cars were maybe never used in the wet!  It's just a case of being anal with the things - constant cleaning and maintenance, and they're actually pretty good. Incidentally, even with all those miles, neither car suffered any kind of breakdown or issues at all. I spent money only on tyres, brakes, shock absorbers and decent oil / filters changed regularly.

No, I've had one of them from brand new and the other has been in bits over the winter, arch liners out been up on a 4 post ramp etc. Yes it does live in a heated double garage with the rest of my stuff

Well I guess in both of your examples they have had pampered lives. Most Fords out in the real world do not last so well. A customer should not have to resort to wax and heated garages for a product not to decay before them.

I have an Escort that was built in 1982,it doesn't live in a garage and it gets driven in all weathers.There are a few little bits here and there but nothing that a couple of hours work wouldn't sort out.
