Its a concept..

Another cracking DS. As for the comments about it looking like a Rocco, my house mate just sold his 2.0tfsi and ordered a DS5 for is company motor. it was the watch strap leather seats that did it I think

Very similar design, clearly whoever designed it used this as research.

A few points

1. Certainly does look lovely and a step above most competition in segment.
2. Will the value plummet over five years? What are the residuals on the ds3 like at the moment? Citreons re branding could well be working......
3. I cannot believe the tech in the car. Why has no one else picked up on it. I think ( if true!) this sounds brilliant, so long as the handling is not compromised. 166mpg, 295bhp, tiny engine, battery charge in 3.5 hours. Wow....

Mike
You forgot the amazing 31ml range in ZEV mode! Risable! Why bother.
I don,t give a st if the ev is only 31 miles. This would suit most commutes and if it does run out, then the ic engine will help out. Could commute 25 miles on the battery, charge up for three hours and then return. Still seriously impressed.....

At first I thought it looked rather good (though not as good as the Metropolis concept), but then I saw the accompanying video and it all went horribly wrong. It's a low slung sports coupe, not a 2-door luxury barge, which really does not fit with the whole DS/CS/SM/XM/C6 luxury barge role that many of us were hoping it would fill (especially as they're now stopping production of the C6).

Maybe a hint of Scirocco, but pick up on the scale cues in the photographs the 5-door Citroen is huge in comparison.

Wow, that looks superb.

How much of the car we see in the pictures will make it into production?
Probably just the name hehe
Ha!
Not a name........ a number!
Idiots

Get out of yur german boring-box ste and take a look at the new DS5 in showrooms now, it looks just like this.

The production 9 would be very very similar to this physical concept.

Anybody buying an Audi/BMW/VAG needs to leave this website, Its about Petrolheads, not diesel boring wagons.
Forget to take your pills today?
I think he has forgotten them lol. People buying Beemas and Audis need to leave? What about those buying M3s & RS4s wink

The car reminds me of a Scirroco from the back, and the front in the first picture reminds me of an Audi A7, not that I think that is a bad thing.
Ive taken my pills today = not had a couple beers.

I just get fed up with boring car buyers knocking companies that try and do something brave and different. If we all liked german cars then every car would be the same.
M3/RS4/911 - I keep wanting to like these cars, but I just cant get over the blandness and buy one.

Yup. That's about my commute. Pretty sure it's more than the average.
So for the vast majority of time I would be using NO petrol.
How is that not a good thing?

The designers of the sirroco wasn't original by any means so lets stop comparing it to the DS - it would be silly.

I am not sure what point you are making with your reply. I think we agree the car looks pretty good. smile However I don't think that the 'overwheeledness' (if that is a word!) does it any favours regardless of it being a concept or not. I was commenting that this is a malaise that has spread through the modern car design industry not just mostly to the detriment of ride but to looks as well.

First pic reminds me of a squashed A1.

How, exactly, is this a saloon?
This.

I'm fed up of manufacturers classifying cars in shapes they are eminently not. The DS9 is eminently a hatchback. As is the Scirocco. And the Ferrari FF.

To me, saloon = 3 box design + 4 doors. Coupes = 3 box design + 2 doors. However slinky a 2 box design is i.e. hatchback shapes, it will never be a coupe/ saloon etc.

Anyway, back on topic... I think the Número 9 or whatever is a nice car. Citroen have finally found their mojo. I hope it rides as well as the citroens of the past have ( not that I have ever sat in one )

Ha! Nothing wrong with a few pints old boy. I wasn't slagging the car off I really like the look of it as I said, I was just wondering how much would make into production.

And 911's are not bland! It's actually quite a unique car. tongue out

I agree, if Citroen get near these performance figures with this styling they will rewrite the brand and their future. Stunning design (yes it uses clues from great Citroens of the past) which is all to the good. Just brilliant!

With the super tech drivetrain in it, both body styles would sell. I love the ZEV mode aspect, that covers my car usage for most of the week with zero £1.50 a litre petrol! Then you also get 300 brake...What's not to like?

Since when have proto types ever reached its performance claims?

It will be under powered like most other large french cars.

It's value will drop like a stone like all other french barges.

Its a hatchback and i see it going the way of the last "Premium" hatch the Signum.

No one buys large hatchbacks in this class and most of Europe buys saloons.

Most people follow clarkson and hearsay when buying a car which means they want the best which the general public thinks German.

The rest of us who are informed know the value will drop so pick german cars for better resale value.

People buy Citrons when its company money or by mistake.

I like the look of it but prefer the other citroen and i like the C6 but not enought to spend my own money.

That looks fabulous, just hoping that the real thing will be as good.
Citroen really are on a roll at the moment. Their cars might not be the "best" in their segments, but they have probably the best looking range on the market (for mass market producer).

I also applaud the planned technology, which fits well with the traditional element of Citroens leading edge designs (e.g. the old DS).

Ref the comments by the poster before me:
- Yes it probably will depreciate like a stone, but that's about buyer perception above all
- I think the proliferation of "tourers" and estates in the German car ranges shows that there IS a market for hatchbacks. At the end of the day, a 3 series touring is not really a full on estate, and is closer in practice to a hatchback 3 series than anything else
- The performance won't be M5 level, but personally, I don't give a stuff. Taking into account how clogged up our road systems are, it's rare that we ever get to use our "performance" cars anymore. I'd rather have "adequate" levels of performance linked to a decent ride quality than performance that I get to use 1% of the time with the trade off of a ride quality so poor that I need to double the number of dental visits I have.

Your points are valid if we were talking about a car primarily intended to be sold in European (and possibly US) markets. However, as the article clearly states, the car is being unveiled in China and that is the intended main market. They are different when it comes to buying cars and hopefully Citroen recognise that - as it is already one of their most important export markets I suspect they do.

My hope is that the Chinese love the car enough for it to have a valid business case to exist, and that the case will be sufficient for the car to be sold in the UK as it will be good to see a few on our roads.
