Hidden £2 switch from Maplins or the bay to isolate the fuel pump and the thieves are driving nowhere.

I wouldn't be happy about having to do this on a brand new car, but it would better than the hassle and expense of finding an empty drive in the morning. frown

A) opening car without keys and without alarm going off... odd

B) Alternative key surely won't fit the barrel, so you've still got the ignition lock to get past... must still involve some breakage?
Did you miss that thread not so long ago where some people were hailing keyless entry and keyless start as the wave of the future?.

Ignition barrels are *so* 2010.

We left East London 7 years ago not regretted it for a second. We hsve now sold up also would never go back, such a better quality of life.

When your tired of London you have woken up to life.
This would appear to be a BMW vehicle security issue not an East End issue.

Vehicles stolen near Brum in significant numbers, for example.

Sorry to hear about this.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I started a topic on this as enough is enough with the number being stolen!

So no alarms are sounding when the cars are being broken into? Or is it in and disable the alarm right away?

OP is certain car was locked and signal was not jammed, are we in 2012 and BMW remote keys are not on rolling codes - or even worse the algorithm has been discovered in the rolling codes?

My alarm certainly did not go off. May suggest two things

1) They unlocked the car thus disabling the alarm?
2) Blind spot in the car alarm?

I dont understand this.

How are they getting into the car? You are certain the car was locked, so either they are code grabbing (what's up with this BMW its 2012, has the rolling code algorithm been broken also?)

If the car is broken into then the key programmed would the alarm not sound at first?

Exactly! I just couldn't understand how they got into my car. The funny thing is that I got out of the car. Emptied the boot of my golf gear (apart from my expensive golf shoes), the Mrs says "babe you locked your car". I confirmed it was locked by trying the door handle. She then checks later as she is extra careful then the car is gone the next day.

If they broke into the car via the lock then why on earth didnt the alarm go off? If there is ablind spot in the alarm them I am sure BMW would rectify this very quickly surely? I think the criminals have found a way of making keys and unlocking the cars remotely. Maybe they can open the car remotely but have to cut the key inside the car.

According to another post (535d stolen from East London) it seems they are drilling the door lock and entering that way and this gives the user 10 second window or similar in which to insert a key / disarm the alarm before it sounds.

I remember this as when I entered a BMW Mini using the keyblade in the door the alarm did not sound, but I did not insert the key within 10 seconds then the alarm sounded.

When you insert the key it disarms the alarm.

Need to get a separate wiki to record all the BMWs that have been stolen in this way so it is easily presentable to the appropriate authorities/companies.

Are Mini's being affected by this too? They have the same issue too surely?

Not sure of the relevance but YH11 sounds like a BMW UK plate, i.e. it was originally on the press fleet. Where did you buy it from?

Bought the car from Sytner in Chigwell. Car was brought in from up north, no idea where though.

I have written to two people at BMW HQ, Thatcham and Watchdog. I hope something can come out of this for the sake of a lot of BMW owners. I think everyone needs to raise their concerns.
