So is this late model six pot E9*s then?

Or should I worry when in London?! They cut a few corners on the later ones - vinyl windscreen blinds, cheaper door cars, some very odd middle seat pocket thing (older ones have a fold down armrest with built in cupholders), deleted the very handy glovebox torch and a few other bits and bobs, even on the later M3s. Annoyed a lot of loyal BMW buyers quite a lot.

There will be 3000 brand new BMWs in East London for a certain sports event in a couple of months. Should keep the thieves busy....

Sorry to hear, what era of BMWs are compromised, is it just the current 2011-12 ones or does it go back further than that . As being alluded to here, it will affect buying decisions of many, including me, especially if insurance premiums start to get loaded.......
I'd imagine it's anything with the current electronic key fob, which they launched with the original 1 series and E90 3 series. This means pretty much all models from the past 6-7 years, so the scale is massive as you're potentially talking about the majority of BMWs on the road today having that key.

Did it have keyless go??

I was told recently that ALL new BMW's 3,5,7 etc with this option can be stolen easily by breaking the window and plugging into the port in the car that the diagnostic goes into.

The stick holds some sort of code which makes the car think that it has the key inside and away they go.

Hi

I did post a reply the other day but it does not seem to be posted. Did your car have keyless go? I have been told recently that all 3,5,7 etc, have all got a problem with a code being written on some sort of interface stick which plugs into the diagnostic port near the drivers door. This makes the car think the key is inside and they can start it and drive away.

Need to get trackers fitted to all of these cars asap so the dibble can do their jobs.

Regards

Mike

Sorry to hear about your loss.

A simple personal solution is to remove your OBD connector, rewire with another connector such as as deutsch.
All you then need is a deutsch to OBD breakout lead for when you get it serviced etc. Or you could swap some of the pins around in the connector as long as you remember to put them back when required.

Doesn't stop the broken window, but you might still have a car on the drive.

Hope that helps.

had my 335d m sport stolen in Birmingham today. BK10 YFL. only owned for 6 weeks. No glass or anything on the road, they clearly just used a cloned key. pathetic.

Won't be buying another BMW.

The Best way to stop someone stealing your car would be to physically block it, e.g. block with another car or clamp your own car at night.

Epic 1st post.

Do you not think thieves move rubbish car out the way to steal the valuable one or take them both.
