Is this going to be addressed by BMW

Many on here have reported keyless thefts recently, and now this...

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4259194/...

Now BMW are going to investigate. Poor show - why not before, why only when a footballer has his stolen.

Because car companies care more about their celebrity 'brand ambassadors' and clients than they do about us.

Given the amount of BMWs that have been stolen in the past week or so, I'd be amazed if someone wasn't looking into it already.

I cannot imagine why BMW have not addressed this already. I don't own a BMW at the moment but reading 'General Gassing' it's clear that there is a major defect with recent cars.

Very strange indeed.

As I said in the other thread. It is a piss poor attitude by BMW that they havent done anything until a celebrity car is stolen. I will admit I am slightly worried about mine being a potential target.

Need to start looking at some extra security.

Really don't want to wake up to an empty driveway.

Disklok? Or 'secret switch' immobiliser. Thing is, both fine on snotters but whether someone would want either on a new BMW, especially the switch which would potentially involve cutting a hole somewhere, is another matter. Big recall coming soon?

yes These are great. Been using mine for 4 years or so now. Never had a problem with it marking up/damaging the steering wheel so long as the rubber surrounds are still in place.

Last time I saw the disklok mentioned here someone claimed he could remove one easily without the key. He was asked to provide proof but didn't. I concluded he was talking bks as every report I've ever read involving lost keys involves a lengthy period of cutting and drilling by a locksmith.

Bit of a pain in the arse using one every time you get in and out of your 30k+ daily driver however.

Although in this case the roads of Britain will now be spared this motoring monstrosity, so it is not all bad news.

Personally I'd fit a cheap secondary cabin alarm, which warns in the house. Problem solved.

Give over. I just had my 44k car nicked from my driveway. Never been a massive BMW fan but it still hurts just the same.

Signal blockers, GPS & GSM jammers are cheaper and easier to obtain however and I can see this becoming an issue for other car manufactures too.

Did Ford not have a similar problem to this? I know at least a few people who had cars disappear, (no broken glass, no key theft)

The problem is China are making cheap clones of devices (diagnostic computers - BMW, Merc, Key copiers / programmers) and the not so funny thing is most of these items are being used successfully to aid car theft

This is what happens when manufacturers get clever and go for fob style keys. The thief now only has to overcome one security device instead of the two with a mechanical key and transponder chip.

Don't buy a BMW simples, let's be honest any time anyone buys an M Car they have to worry about a warranty.

Over hyped and over priced badge in my opinion.

No, the papers only care about the celebrity. Otherwise it's just a boring consumer item.

To be fair to BMW, a security issue is not something you should do a pre-emptive announcement about.
