Mark at MJF Engineering who works just outside of Dorking, Surrey is the right man to take The E28 M5 to for any issue - a true enthusiast.

This was replaced by the king of bork, otherwise know as the E34 M5 Touring, which was marginally less expensive to run than Concorde.
Classic line....

Agreed! Hats off aswell for not bothering with the paperwork. I like it how some people in life just say fk it! For this reason, I take my hat off. Well played sir.

I absolutely love these old M5s, though my favourite is the E39 - just when I had been lusting over them the most one of the blokes at work turned in an absolute stunner, E39 M5 with 80,000 on the clock and garaged every night of it's life. Not a mark on it, it's immaculate. The only thing that disappointed me was how quiet it was at idle and low speeds. I imagine it picks up a bit once it's on the move, but I'd like to hear more of that V8 rumble!

I think if I had to rank the M5s in order of my favourites the list would be as follows;

1. E39
2. E34
3. E28
4. E60

5. F10

The gulf between 4th place and 5th is massive. I hold the first 4 in very high regard, but the F10 just does nothing for me. I think it's a great looking car, though not as good as the other M5s, but the engine, no matter how powerful, doesn't inspire me.

Any of the others though, I'd never get sick of even just looking at them, let alone driving them.

And don't I know it. Grmph! Still, a 2100 mile drive to Tuscany and back, via Switzerland, over Easter confirmed why I'm prepared to tolerate such eye watering, intergalactic bork and expense.

i think you need to remember what the M5 is supposed to be first and foremost. a comfortable executive saloon. if it was a bit noisy at idle and louder at slow speeds such as around town it'd likely be a less relaxing place to be when you want to be relaxed; which is quite a big part of the M5 appeal. step on the loud pedal though and things soon change....when you want them to.

My e34 M5 was hard to start after sitting for a while-turned out the inside of the dizzy had corroded and the spark wasn't getting through-easy enough to pop the cap off and have a look and clean it with emery paper if thats the case. Have you got an immobiliser on it? I've had an e28 535 and my current e34 M5 so know my way round these a bit.

I owned a white e28 m5 for a number of years, my brother had a black e30 M3at the same time... When we went out for dawn raids it was like the emperial star destroyer and a tie fighter !

Worst mistake of my motoring life selling that car... So much poise, it steered almost by thought, and handled like a dream... I did a "wetter the better" day with don palmer at MIRA, man oh man, I still remember the butt clenching moments I had tyre howl on the wet handling circuit.

Oh man! I want my old car back!!

Oh I fully appreciate some people like their cars quiet, but I'll take my luxury with a pinch of volume please. Quiet is not for me. If I were lucky enough to be able to own an E39 M5 (or any M5 really) one of the first things I'd do is source an AC Schnitzer exhaust and put the standard one into storage.

E92 has too if you include the GTS.

You could also say the E46 has as the CSL engine is quite different in character from the standard car.

You'll be wanting a full Eisenmann system.

Great picture, loved mine; got similar slip angles out of it, but never at such speed I should imagine. So, it must have been some time ago when you had yours?
