I'm very undecided on this one, the sort of rats I like are usually old US cars and this BMW does have elements from those which I like.

I really do like the engineering aspect in terms of the V8, the corvette suspension and such like but I kind of feel that the overall package isn't quite to my liking as i'm not certain about the proportions.

What do people make of this then as a US drag car inspired 2002

I had a white 2002Tii and i think it's a shame what they've done. If you'd ever owned one you would understand.

It would be worth more and look so much better brought back to it's former glory, and yes that Gruppe B Touring car does it for me. cloud9

The Rod looks ste!! vomit
I had a silver 2002tii and think it's bloody good for the BMW to have been given the rat look, adds another dimension to its iconic status IMO, much as the Art Car BMW's, rather than it being a car for trad/conservative bores....
I don't think being traditional or conservative about the way a car looks means you're boring.
I prefer the car looking as it originally did or something like the Gruppe B car.

I don't think turning it into a Rat Rod was the best use for the car, but each to their own.

I do however think it looks ste as a rod and that doesn't make me a bore. There are other cars out there that lend themselves better to being butchered and turned into a Rat Rod. Something the yanks have been successfully doing to their own cars since the 50's, and what a great job they do too.

However, that doesn't mean the USA treatment works well on a european classic like the 2002.

I don't like it. smile

Not fussed in the slightest he has done that to the 2002, not my cup of tea either but you have got to love a bonkers idea that the guy at least had the stones and ability to finish.

Well done that man

Ha... Good man, turning one ugly car into another... Like the idea of the LS1 V8, great motor and once finished, I reckon it will be a head turner!!

Spot on description! For me it lacks enough 2002 identity to have a point, it could be any chassis and body with a 2002 grille on it.

This seems to be splitting opinions. I don't know if I like it or not. It's very different. I would like to see a Capri rat rod, that could be as different.

The constant whiff of "Pistonheads disapproves of custom cars" is getting really, really tedious.

I'm a petrolhead and therefore all cars interest me, even if I wouldn't build it myself.

Who gives a toss that someone chopped up a BMW to build something interesting/different.

My personal opinion is that it's really cool smile

I wouldn't care if someone rat-rodded a Ferrari 250GTO. I've seen 250GTO's in real life and in about a thousand photos, but I've never seen a ratted one... Therefore I would find it interesting smile

This could be the first BMW where the public don't hate the driver. That is something in itself.

Everybody to their own taste, I prefer old school tuning like my own BMW 1600-2 I guess from what i read in this thread that this car will tick the boxes of most people
