there's always a way....

(and I know it's not a v12 and I know it won't sound like an AMG, but it's about the same 0-60 and cheaper wink )

For the type of client who buys this (Russian, China, Mid east etc), the higher the price, the more desirable.
Exactly, just look at how the wealthy consume brands like Hermes in Asia. People want the most expensive item, no matter what it is, and ensuring the quality remains high is hardly a challenge when you're selling bags for £50k. Therefore to be the market leader all that is required is to be more expensive than your competition!

I struggled to comprehend the price of the G63.... But the G65 is €265,000!! Whoever said the Germans have no sense of humour was sadly mistaken. I am loving the sheer lunacy of it though.

Moscow is full of blacked out Brabus G's
Couldn't agree more. And hilariously ridiculous given Moscow traffic speed has to be the slowest in the world. It's pure statement. Not bad for a car that looks like it's straight out of the Munsters. Daimler's marketing crew must be pissing themselves.

I bet that in non EU countries this costs way less, especially when there is no VAT or a very low rate in their target markets. The English are so feeble when it comes to complaining about tax.

265 grand for a defender type vehicle - un-believable
130+ grand difference for 37bhp - astounding

The fact that they made it - fantastic!
The G65 gets 68hp more, the 37hp is the difference between the out going G55 and the G63.

Not like.

A family friend has a 2.8 diesel G-wagen in white with a cloth interior. It lived in Malawi for a few years and looks suitably dog-eared and I'd happily inherit that when he pops his clogs. This gussied-up gin palace of the road does nothing for me.

I suppose it appeals to the same people who like Sunseekers, gated communities and jewellery but it's not to my taste at all.

Land Rover really missed a trick with their Defender.

They could easily have tarted it up, stuck in the luxurious Range Rover interior and a supercharged 5.0 V8 and trebled the price. Plenty of people would have bought it IMO.

The fact the Mercedes can command £100,000+ for a 20+ year old car (same W463 chassis for yonks) and make it desirable AND it have amazing residuals is amazing. They deserve a pat on the back.

Oh man, I so so so badly want one.

They are doing a G Class on the next Wheeler Dealers on Discovery. Looks like an old one turned into a more modern one - probably without the massive engine and for much less money. In fact it sounds perfect for us mere mortals. Its an SWB though which is not as cool as the LWB

I know its quite sad that I know this much about an upcoming wheeler dealers episode but I love these. My old man nearly bought one in the 80s....but went went for an e28 instead so it wasn't all bad!

I confess for these sort of financial sums, my strange Unimog fettish (with extra whips please Ursala) could be satiated to a very high degree - and what would look more imposing outside Harvey Nics :-))
