I've always liked the idea of those Mitsubishi Delicas, the 4x4 people carrier, I'm sure the reality isnt quite so positive though.

Second series of the walking dead has had me thinking about zombie apocalypse transport, efficiency is a big concern and I'm unlikely to find a mine clearing tank anywhere in the north east of england. A securicor van or similar would be handy, armoured cab, de-restricted, not too bad on fuel I'd guess...
The Delica was awesome. My mum had the second of the versions. Big AT tyres on it, bullbar, lifted, captains chairs, etc. it was a frikkin beast. Great to drive too.

Great 4x4's the land cruiser of this era....will take endless work. We've had 2 in our work for the heavy towing...they are plated to 4 ton. We also have a older square nissan patrol with the 4.2 petrol engine.....another similar car that does anything it's asked and runs on and on. landrover discovery's don't compare, our one's ate gearboxes/clutches/turbos, they are just are not up to the work load....unfortunate as we generally like to support local enterprise.

Defenders are brilliant at what they do...when they work. I wouldnt trust it further than I could throw a rotten floor-pan.

How about one of these?

Two Mongolian businessmen had one built for each of them so they can go hunting wolves with their specially trained hunting eagles.

Chickens the lot of you with your Landcruiser fanboy fetishes, you need the Chevy Blazer Chalet!

nearly bought one of these for £700 once, bound to have been trouble free motoring.

Nothing compares to those Amazons, great for shunting 7000kg of truck around too!

There is one going about here that looks like some urban terrisist with blacked out windows, lots of lighting and very chunky off-road tyres and looks like its had a body lift as well.

I do get the scratchchin moment everytime I see it.

Take the mechanicals from an old syncro?

I do like the idea of a 4x4 Land Cruiser but as said before these things really do hold their price. I remember looking at one a few years back and a Pajero was about 2K but one of these (and old as well) was about 9K!

No need. You can get Syncro Transporters in van/Caravelle guise and in SWB or long. I converted a SWB ex-Transco Syncro van into a camper and while it probably wasn't as capable in the mud as a Delica (although you can get lifts and protection, and it has a locking rear diff as standard...) it's bigger and made a better camper.
