RE: PH Blog: Clio Elbow

We did 18 hours non-stop to the south of France in my 172 Cup, and then 18 hours non stop back again - 4 of us. Injuries suffered included head injuries to rear seat passengers and audible annoyances from the noise of the exhaust in the back. The cup chassis has a tendancy to handle bumps to the rear very poorly indeed.
I hit my head on the grab handle when I had fallen asleep against the window and we hit a nasty join between the roadway and a bridge. The others had their necks crushed everytime we went over other harsh joins in the French motorways and the car threw them into the roof. As it was my car I declared that I wasn't sitting in the back, and took to the passenger seat when I wasn't driving
We ended up calling out warnings to the guys in the back everytime a bump approached to save their head and necks. Very amusing little trip

I've almost slit my throat with the door on a Skoda Roomster. The top corner of the door comes to a fine point and if your my height (5'10) then as you open the door it takes a swipe at your neck. Almost fell on my arse the first time I got in one as I realised it was gunna be a close call, tried to take a step back but couldn't let go of the handle quick enough.
Only other injuries have been bruised knees from getting into various cars after women and short arses. Must learn to reach in and slide the seat back before attempting to get in.

While young... sat in the rear seat of my Dad's Marina and reached for the lap belt as he slammed the door shut. Result, trapped fingers and frantic cries for him to open it again as the child-locks were set. Fortunately the panel fit was so bad, no damage was done. BL's workers had health and safety in mind even back then!
When I first had my MX-5 I developed a habit of pulling it out of third with my fingertips and letting the gearknob hit the heel of my hand. I didn't realise how strong the spring was though- after a few weeks the bruise was rather impressive and the habit quickly disappeared.
I'm also prone to getting static shocks off cars- the worst being from a Daihatsu at a motorshow. I reached for the doorhandle and there was a flash and a loud snap, followed by me jumping several feet backwards nursing a numb right hand. It took a few minutes before the feeling came back, during which time I'd been moved behind the display as my language was not for kids ears. I did get a free cup of coffee though.

My classic John Cooper Sportspack Mini had daft alloy door handles that are at the perfect angle to hit you right on that funny bone spot at the end of your elbow every time you used to: turn a corner/ wind up the window/ slide your arm off the door when using it as an arm rest. The pain was exquisite, and was actually the reason I look back and hate what was otherwise a timeless car. I probably should have just unscrewed it and put a little leather handle on instead...
