Taken my 328i from 134k to 154k and it's been excellent. This really is no miles at all for an E46, the only things to look out for are, as Bork rightly says, abnormal suspension knocks or a vagueness about the steering (indicates worn control arm bushes), and arch rust. Don't worry too much about small under-paint bubbles, mine had little areas like that when I bought it and they haven't developed in two and a half years.

If the dampers are original, they might be getting a bit worn by that mileage, mine feel not quite perfect but this may be the stark contrast from my super-stiff E36 track car! Cooling systems a little suspect so see if there's any history for recent thermostat, water pump and radiator replacements. Not expensive or difficult things to do as preventative maintenance, though, so not a deal breaker. If it's tidy, it's a lot of car for £750!
Thank you

This is it

Looks nice! Clear indicator lenses which is a shame... wink

These are MV2 alloys, check the tyres are in good nick as they aren't cheap to replace!

Front and rear arches that we can see in the photo look very clean. Alloys are a bit kerbed so check the suspension carefully.

Agreed! That interior is in seriously good condition, goes to show how capable modern cars can be if looked after. I wonder who would buy that though? Or do we think it will end up being exported / clocked and sold with a "lost" service history?

New tyres fitted last month.

Thanks for the advice, I'm pretty clueless with the 3 series!

Looks nice based on the 1 picture. New tyres as well. Can't go too far wrong for £750 surely?

This makes it sound very attractive, assuming they aren't Linglongloveyoulongtime ditchfinders! The correct tyre sizes for those alloys are staggered, they should be 225/40R18 front and 255/35R18 rear. The rears are definitely not cheap, and some people skimp by fitting a square setup of 225s all round.

Looks like a tidy one, though, particularly good bodywork and what seems to be non-sport suspension means the ride should be OK even on the 18s.

One final point is to pay attention to the gearchange. It's rarely a problem on four-pots, but the E46 had some issues with the rear diff mounting, which can result in a nasty thud and/or driveline shunt when engaging gears, especially when the gearbox is cold. The shift action isn't terribly pleasant on any of them, but it should be quiet and not cause a shudder through the car! They're a bugger to put right if they have this issue. Don't worry about small noises, you'll definitely know what I'm talking about if this car has it hehe

Why have I never found this thread before? I love high mileage cars. Mine tend to be older so it's less remarkable, but no less impressive.

Currently have a 1992 BMW E34 520i on 179000 and a 2002 Volvo S40 1.9D that's approaching 201000 miles.

Brave and brilliant! But I do wonder if it will be a bit rusty underneath? But £2.5k! I could sell my car, buy that and still have some change left over. Must resist tongue out

Another PHer has a Chim with over 110k on it, took it to a rolling road day the other year and it produced very slightly more than it should have as standard.

"What do you put the extra down to?"

"Err, experience?" hehe

94k in a 2 year old M5 is pretty good going I'd say!

Looks factory fresh too, other than the rusty wheel bolts. Interesting alternative to a 520d motorway muncher I suppose hehe

Bloody hell! Whilst I'm not overly surprised they can do the miles with a mechanic on standby, I am genuinely impressed by the condition of the drivers seat.

Spaceship mileage smile At least the seller is honest about it.

Wonder what it drives like.
