I remember my mate telling me about a 4 year old Mk3 Mondeo estate that was being broken for spares in a local Ford breakers, it had covered about 300k as it had been a taxi pool car so was almost ran 24/7, that was properly worn out, paintwork down to primer on the sills off people getting in and out, worn out seats, sloppy gear linkages etc, but the engine ran sweet enough, just a shame the rest of the car wasn't as good.

Some great stuff appearing in this thread, that Civic looks pretty good for its mileage, I know one on 50k that looks a lot worse.

My uncle had a 1998 Peugeot 406 2.1 TD on 250,000 miles, sold it and we still saw it driving around for a few years afterwards.
Considering how unreliable the XUD11 engine was supposed to be with the electronic Lucas pump (after owning one myself and changing to a Bosch mechanical pump) I find it amazing it lasted that long. Still in very good nick when he sold it too, and he serviced it all himself.

I sold an diesel Audi A4 some time ago had it twelve tears it covered 585,000 miles from new. 300,000 in the first five years and then 250,000 in the next seven. Brilliant car with all original equipment working bodywork fine still running happily it had five cambelts changed always looked after by the same mechanic. We used it in several delivery businesses and the like.
Still on the original engine it did have a new flywheel and clutch after the original fell apart. Modern cars will cover very high mileages if they are serviced regularly. In fact it is still going today I sold it to a neighbour.
Overheating is the no no with modern engines. Alloy heads and heat are a bad mix. Otherwise I have had several Volvos exceed 300,000 miles happily. Down to the driving style really and the sheer depth of quality in these cars. They fade away more than wear out.

I'm amazed too. I think Audi must have improved the autoboxes on the A6 - the boxes on the 100's were always failing due to trans fluid and coolant mixing from split autobox coolers. I've noticed this and I guess it's a symptom of the economic climate, the bigger cars seem to be Rep cars and clocking up immense mileages. I wonder if the mileages may also be down to companies running with Reps covering a much larger area than they used to.This Merc's got over 1.2 Million Km on it apparently
