Even if you could pick up the Enzo for reasonable money, it will cost you a fortune to restore it to average european condition. A customer of my local sportscar garage bought a F430 from Dubai. Looked marvelous outside but there was bloody sand in every space all inside, every gap filled up with dirt. Lots of electronical trouble due to the sand and they hadn't even looked inside the cylinders yet. The loom looked as if he car had been parked 10 feet deep in a pond for a week. Not a bargain in the end...
Thats just what happens out there. I think it only takes a handful of days to have your car coated in so much dust and sand it looks like some kind of epic barn find.

Fine sand and dust also gets in anywhere... even if its air tight, it'll fill up with sand I bet! Would hate to know that basically you could be sanding the inside of your engine down every time you drive! I bet an air filter doesnt stop it all.

It's all about the prestige of being one of the select few first whilst they're the latest must have item. Once that's passed many such people (especially in the ME) simply don't care what happens to it as they've already moved onto the next must have.
Console yourself in the fact that they can never be truly happy.

On a serious note, there might be some truth in that. After all, who's happier? Them, with their huge amounts of cash, multiple palaces, model partners and access to the finest things the world can offer.

Or me? With what I've got.

It's them isn't it? Richer and happier.

This is a car that was over 90% financed and the 'owner' lost his job and legged it as the rent on his appartment, the finance on the car and all his food and drink bills were greater per month than his basic income.
Wouldn't this then go back to the finance company - or whatever the UAE equivalent is? Or is there some way that this money then gets filtered back to them?

Richer, yep, happier, probably not.

For someone with a Westerner's sense/perspective of culture, the UAE is probably one of the most mind-numbingly boring places on earth. Superb place for a vacation, lousy place to live.

What do you suggest? Putting everyone with a loan, finance or a mortgage in jail?

It's not illegal to owe money - it's a criminal offence not to pay it back

i find the reverse to be true. if you are bored as a resident here then you have a very narrow outlook.

The best thing in Dubai if you're in debt up to your eyeballs is to have your mates in Abu dhabi write you a big fat cheque.

Mr-b was responding to following quote: "You are not allowed to be in debt, it is very serious". It says nothing about paying it back or not.

Having a mortgage, finance or loan *IS* being in debt.

You look for solutions on the wrong end. Why were banks allowed to lend money to people who had no chance of paying them back? That whole commision crazed system is the root of the problem. This is why properties are so expensive in UK. Nicely hyperinflated prices due to banks giving money away. People don't think how to earn money, just how to borrow, one credit card after another, finance for everything. And then they wonder how they got in trouble...

Have you ever lived in rural Norfolk?

Or rural Indiana?

Or Hull?

There is a whole world of boring out there.

I can only recommend that you spend a bit less time posting on here (if there's that much to do, how come you've got the time?) and get out and see a bit more of the rest of the World, it's way more interesting and far less boring than where you're located at the mo and if you were more widely travelled you'd know that.

Such a shame that these cars end up in the hands of people who don't care about them. Really hope they're careful when washing all that dust off - full detail required I wager!

In order, Yep, slap in the middle, little village with stuff like a cathedral & castle called Norwich (added to which saving grace Snett is but a few miles down the A11, so that'll do nicely), No & No (and not displeased with that).

There is indeed and IMHO Dubai is one of them; beyond the gloss, there is bugger-all there; done the Red Dune, been there, done that, got the tee-shirt.

So said, each to his own.

after looking forward to seeing Dubai, I really have no plans to ever go back again! everything is just superficial, we have the biggest this, the best that etc. I couldn't stand the place in the end, everything just seemed false, enjoyed the trip to Thailand that followed after much more!

No, I was suggesting that individuals and governments alike shouldn't be so quick to borrow money, look where it has got us. Borrowing money should be taken seriously and lending money to anyone with a pulse has got us right in the $hit.

he will have financed most, if not all of the purchase cost of the car, in Dubai it's a criminal offence to fail to honour a debt punishable by imprisonment, if he couldn't keep up the payments he probably packed a bag an jumped on the first flight out that he could

The guy could afford an Enzo, but racked up too many traffic fines, so he just abandoned the car and went home.

Can someone do a better job of explaining that for me, that makes no sense!

True to a degree but if you're willing to get involved there are things to do. Uk has a touch more to offer in the way of mountains / countryside if you're all out-doorsy but there's more to living there than Friday brunches at the weekend.

Summer is extremely boring with the heat but I have to admit that after a long week at work the thing I miss most is going up to the pool (which was often empty) for the weekend. I don't want to be working a 50 hr week and have a packed weekend but a little excursion out to the desert / mountains once a month or so was enough to keep me occupied.

Couple that with all the golf tournaments, the sevens, formula 1 (and all the other Motorsport), power boating etc. What else do you need?
