i would pop along and take pics but they are asking £20 just to attend the auction. apart from the enzo it wouldnt be worth going anyway, not like we're short of supercars locally.
It's about £20 to watch the auction. If you want to bid at all, the fee to do that (ahead of the auction) is about £10000.

debt being a criminal offence in the UAE.
I can see how this works for an individual country, but this is at odds with the monetary system since all money is created through debt. If every country applied these rules then the system would collapse. Of course the system is collapsing anyway. All the money the boys and girls in the UAE have is a debt owed to a bank by some other people somewhere else in the world.CraigyMc said:

Isn't it £2 to watch the auction? (according to the article anyway)
it's AED110, divide by 6 for sterling. that's more than it costs me for a tank of superunleaded FFS! blasos said:

debt isn't a criminal offence, not being able to repay those debts is. huge difference. bouncing cheques, for instance, can get you 6yrs. SonnyM said:
It doesn't appear to be online. But given it was known to be a high value car, why didn't the bell ends oops I mean Police cover it up or keep it indoors to preserve it...
Its not their car and they'll never see the money. Why would they care? All that they did was leave it outside - it is just a little dusty!

Fair enough, I was just doing the maths from £1k to enter the auction as I just read...Article said:
People who want to bid in the auction must pay a deposit of Dhs50,000 ahead of the sale. Those who simply want to watch the drama of one of the world’s rarest cars being auctioned need to pay Dhs110 for entry to the sale.
So does that mean entry to just to bid in the Auction is £8,000 !!!!Cheeky Jim said:
It was probably bought on tic... then when the big crash happened, he suddenly realised he couldn't afford the repayments..... add on a few hefty fines and it's easier to do a runner than face jail time...
As I don't think we have a reciprocal arrangement with the UAE for deporting 'suspects', he's kinda got off...
Spot on. As I don't think we have a reciprocal arrangement with the UAE for deporting 'suspects', he's kinda got off...
The parking/speeding fines comment wa just a gib, fun remark.
This is a car that was over 90% financed and the 'owner' lost his job and legged it as the rent on his appartment, the finance on the car and all his food and drink bills were greater per month than his basic income.

Let's not get too carried away with the UAE being held up as any sort of 'exemplar'.
I've spent some time there and my abiding memories are 1) front page daily news usually being some Member of the Royal Family presenting some close relative with some sort of lifetime award for something or other and 2) loads of immigrant workers being housed in containers and living in desperate poverty round the back of five star hotels.
It's a veritable st-hole completely devoid of any sort of 'culture' that any Westerner would recognise and I think it's only a question of time before it all goes pop big-time like Libya, Egypt etc.
By the way, 'traffic fines' of near enough £20K are not unheard of.
