Vectra VXR with it's 2.8 turbo V6
I started a thread about those a while back but it didn't get that good a reception.

I've concidered the following

Vauxhall Vectra VXR

Mondeo Tittanium X 2.5t

BMW 3 Series 325 and above

Subaru Legacy 3.0 spec B

Saab 9-3 2.8t (Vectra in a suit)

Saab 9-5 Aero hot

Volvo V70/50

Renault Laguna 180 sport

Alfa Romeo 159

Basically every half decent estate I can think of.

Sorry about the highjack OP but I hope my questions can assist you in your search too.

Glad this thread came up, I was going to start one exactly the same as I'm hoping to go and see this tomorrow.

I've always liked the looks and I need an estate and this dealers about a mile away from me smile
That's an early nav unit - you'll be hard pressed to get updates. Mine is an 05 car and has the Denso unit.

That is annoying. Seems to plague a lot of cars - the missus Skoda is the same.
Why is it annoying?

If it's foggy you put them on, of it isn't, you don't.
confused

Sometimes you want to be seen from the back, but front fogs create glare.

Loads of faulty bits and the seats are not comfortable .
Sounds like you bought a real pup. But those recaro seats are well known to be some of the most comfy around as attested to in various magazines, they proved to be excellent seats in my focus.

Too old I'm afraid, my firm want me to have a car no older than 2007 but I will push it for decent cars 2004 the oldest.

Also forgot the Audi A4/6 and VW Passat. Nearly went to seee a 56 plate Passat 2.0 Tdi (140) DSG at the weekend but it had sold.

Surely after the first few times you use cruise you remember which one is which!?

Do you look at every key on your keyboard before you press it as well?

I have to say this is a car I'd have previously dismissed, but after reading up on it a bit I'm wondering if I'd have been wrong. I don't even mind how they look.

I would say I doubt they'll hold their money well and road tax is hefty (isn't on all of these though). But with a 2.8 V6 turbo it looks to be in a different performance league to some of these others and somehow without a huge mpg penalty either. I've read re-maps can see 300hp, which is getting on to some serious performance in this weight of car.

A good list, but you really need a vRS on there too IMO (check my profile).

OP: Mondeo is a good steer and sounds great, bags of room, cheap to buy - go for it.

I'm quite fancying one of these. Is the facelift worth it? Prices seem to be £3-4k pre facelift, then jump to £5 plus?

This is with 3 owners in 7 years, perfect service history and 74k on the clock.

Needless to say, it's been a great car.
Sounds like those 3 owners have beaten the st out of it. My 7 year old LX doesn't have any of those troubles, also with 75k on the clock. The cruise buttons are annoying, but once you use them a bit, it's easy to remember which is which.

Only major irritation on mine was the bulbs going behind the speedo. Replaced them with LED bulbs off eBay (£10 for the full set, about 3 hours of work to fit DIY). Now got a clear, crisp, brightly lit dash, not the feeble green glow before the standard bulbs went out.
