@ Riggers
Will you be asking VW's techies why PH's GTI 35 can't better 29mpg on a long-run - ie, when its 2.0T is cruising off-boost?
It does, i easily get 37-38 mpg @ 70mph,40-41 mpg @50- 60 mph, mines a manual not a auto though i don't think that makes much difference at cruising speedWill you be asking VW's techies why PH's GTI 35 can't better 29mpg on a long-run - ie, when its 2.0T is cruising off-boost?
Can't beat a clean Rallye!

Having been to Autostadt, the BMW museum in Munich(old and new) the Mercedes museum and Porsches' Museum (old and new)
I found Autostadt is by far the most enjoyable experience, on the other hand I found BMWs' new museum disorientating and confusing ( this from a former underground miner!) Mercedes of course get to chart the entire history of the automobile and this the do with typical German efficiency. None of them are bad but they are all different to each other.

Looks like a good road trip.
I think once I've finished my Corrado it deserves a trip around Germany to say hello to it's cousins in Wolfsburg.
You should defeinitely make the trip I think once I've finished my Corrado it deserves a trip around Germany to say hello to it's cousins in Wolfsburg.
They've got a VR6 Storm gifted by VW UK in the Stiftung museum (blog update coming up - though not sure I have a picture of that one...)

MK1 weight with current GTI power please, in RWD.
Do what? When the Mk1 Golf was launched the market was near full of rwds and almost all of them were st.VW chose to do something differently, and their sport model of the Golf blew the opposition away.
If VW had built cars in the same was as everyone else at the time then I think VW would have disappeared before the end of the 1970's.

HBGT,
I hear what you say but feel that with the power of the modern FWD GT car you're best driving the rear or all wheels for optimum car control when on the limit.
I pretty much completely disagree, I'm afraid.I hear what you say but feel that with the power of the modern FWD GT car you're best driving the rear or all wheels for optimum car control when on the limit.
For me it's the imbalance of an fwd that i enjoy and which makes them so much fun, imo. I certainly think that all awd offers is massive grip and no involvement.
