Well, judging by putting various symptoms into 205gtidrivers and reading the tales of woe when everything that fixed everyone else's cars with similar problems doesn't seem to work. It started with a weird loss of power at 1500rpm in the lower gears where it would suddenly either smoothly drop until stalling or I'd dip the clutch and release it again above 1500 and it's be okay. Then it started to become difficult to start (takes a while and even longer if accel pressed at all) and would stall when coming to a stop when cold. and it started getting really lumpy if revs were held at 1900 and 3000. Now it it's lumpy all the way through with weird flat spots and it cuts out and struggles to restart at all. Any ideas on what to go for first and guides to various things would be much appreciated. Going to check for air leaks, adjust TPS (not sure how), tweak timing and AFM, look at some earths etc. The other issue is the fact I am completely broke.

Loon, if you need a massively enthusiastic salesman for a couple of months 'til you find an experienced candidate, I know of a great guy with great natural ability , Also he's really good at baking.

Stumbled across this one though. Sold?? Jeez. 15k E36 M3SMG too. I'm all for low-mileage cars but a 5-year gap between services doesn't please me... Urgh. that will be a headache when someone starts to use it more than driving between services and MOTs :P OMG!! I take it back... it has the BMW Torch and mud-flaps! Also the previous owner was skilful and awesome enough to not to have used the spare!!! I mean how can one buy a car where someone has used the spare! ha ha

My job seems great to other people, I got paid to spend Monday and Tuesday on a hillside in the moors, and am spending the weekend canoeing and climbing in the lake district, things most people do for the sheer hell of it.

I loathe to spend out on coils/ignition amps unless they are genuinely the issue. If I had more money I'd just do it, but I don't. Initial tests show an air leak somewhere (idles with blocked AMF, perhaps better than normal), could that be my only issue or are there likely to be others?
