Didn't they have a badge on these that ?said Lambda turbo, with a lambda character
Yes, they did. Badges on the door pillars.
Brilliant cars, I love them but I don't know why. Inside feels like a spaceship & has comfiest seats ever.
I've had 3 turbo 480's, 1 1.7 n/a and 1 2 litre 480 celebration. Quicker than the figures suggest and generally bulletproof other than some electrical niggles. I had a 170bhp Richmond in one of my turbos & it was a very potent little car!

I thought 'M' registered cars were 94-95, rather than '96?
Me too. Unless it's got a rather lame private plate on it, that can't be right.I was under the impression that the 1.7 turbo was superceded by the 2.0L 93/94 but as where most things are concerned, I'm probably wrong.
I had a 2.0ES and it was an excellent car, girlfriend at the time went one better and picked up a 2.0GT. Her's died with a broken cambelt, scrapped mine last year as I had no where to keep it after having not driven it for years. Shame as body work was spotless but did have the usual water ingress problems and electrical gremlins.
Nearly cried as the scrappy towed it away.
Odd fact of the week. Despite the wedge profile, Volvo insisted that this car had a volvoesque style grille on the front with the badge and diagonal stripe. You have to look very closely and get on your hands and knees to see it. It's well hidden under the bumper but it's there.
Always loved this car. Mate of mine had a white 1.7 non turbo but I thought it was the Dogs Bits at the time.

Just see a part of the grill here, not the best pic. Interestingly enough the object of SOTW still has it's front splitter/dam attatched, most of these fell prey to curbs and speed humps. If I recall they were silly money to replace at the time so few people ever bothered.thewheelman said:
Easily one of my least favourite SOTW's, i remember a friend had one in the mid 90's, it was just one of those cars, that if it could go wrong, then it would. He got shot of it for a Honda Prelude, which by chance, i'd say would make a good SOTW.
And this is my MOST favourite, ever. Thank you for making the SOTW thread such a interesting discussion. Just out of interest, what you your favourite SOTW? I suspect it could well be my least...

Those "weak" 120Hp result out of Volvo and Porsche
collaborating on one of the first "soft" Turbos.
Resulting not so much in a spike of HP but in a
broad, usable band of torques.
Those soft turbos are all the rage now for the reduction of
fuel consumption and emissions. Only Volvo and SAab
did it back then, but it didn't catch on, obviously.

I don't think it's right at all. I believe the only models that were registered in late 95/early 96 were the 2.0L Celebration model (only 480 produced natch) then that was the end of production.

The 2 litre ES n/a replaced the 1.7ES as the supply of 1.7 engines ran short. They got rid of the last 1.7 engines in a low spec S model with no infocentre or sunroof etc. Turbo model was sold right up till the end.I was under the impression that the 1.7 turbo was superceded by the 2.0L 93/94 but as where most things are concerned, I'm probably wrong.

^^Not mine I must add, but a rather nice 480 turbo.
