I found it amusing that you were describing Vlad as 'loving his tractor' - presumably referring to his 335d - yet you drive a Civic diesel? I guess you can dish it out ok, but based on your response here, you clearly cant take it.

I guess you can dish it out ok, but based on your response here, you clearly cant take it. Are you stupid? All ive seen Vlad do is tell everyone how awesome dervs are and how they are just as good as petrols, etc, etc, same old crap different day routine. Me on the other hand, i have a diesel because i want to save money. I don't pretend it's the bestest car in the world, and i wouldn't be pretending a 335d was either. Im not trying to compare it to a 335d either, before you jump all over that. If you are still struggling id suggest eating some crayons.

Crikey the 335d has been made into a joke here. I'm looking for one as I do 100 miles a day. I want comfort with a bit of performance. If I done less miles and had the money to burn I'd have the M3, which part of me wants.

Its generally regarded as a very good and capable car.

Vladimir said: Mr2Mike said: This exactly the kind of argument I would expect from someone who clearly doesn't understand the first thing about power and torque. Very obviously torque itself is important, your car wouldn't move at all without it. However peak engine torque is completely irrelevant. What IS important is the area under the usable torque range. An engine that develops a high peak torque over a very small vehicle speed range will typically not be as useful as one developing a lower torque over a much wider speed range given the limitations of of current transmissions (i.e. ones with discrete gear ratios). CVT boxes will be a game changer, if they can devlop ones capable of taking the required power reliably without horrendous losses. Well the 35d unit produces a very flat torque curve so clearly it's you that doesn't understand. And you can waffle on as much as you like but the 335d is quicker around Bruntingthorpe than the 335i despite an auto box, less power, more weight and slower raw acceleration figures. I wonder why? Lots of other tests round other tracks where the 335i is lots faster than the 335d not just the 0.1 of a second that you always post !

Who'd have though it! Bought a 106 Gti on saturday morning, fully stripped the interior sunday. I'll worry about the derv when I get bored of this

Fox- said: Why is this thread back Does it ever go away? Nobody will agree, apart from the sensible few who can work out what petrol does best, where diesel makes sense and the occasions where fuel is irrelevant and personal choice can make the decision for you.

It couldn't be diagnosed, basically I kept getting told "its not the block or head, they're bullet proof and never break" Injectors were cheaked twice, turbo's were boosting fine, couldn't work out what the smkoe was and pretty much every other diagnostic route was checked before we noticed steam coming from the dipstick tunnel. And mayo has rapidly built up everywhere! and yep Doogz. Crashed INTO twice, once the car was parked, the other time I was stationary at a red light. The car is sitting at the back of the drive broken, just like the MG was 2years ago. I'm leaving it insured, with this luck you never know.
