There is a lot of misinformation regarding this car . The clk black was not a slightly modded merc . I am an enthusiastic 2 time owner and know the cars inside out .
It had fully adjustable custom suspension , a seam welded and triangulated chassis . Bespoke diff , oil cooler , battery and other things moved around to improve weight distribution , removal of airbags ( door ) , bespoke interior carbon , bespoke rear axle and the most industrial / evil body kit ( including composite wings) on any coupe ever not forgetting black series specific engine , and tcu mapping .

I have been working with MKB in germany on my car , it now has a faster shifting gearbox that blips on downshifts ( as well as fifty odd extra horses ) .
The Americans have been trying to crack this for years but Mkb cracked it . The car is even better now it's tremendous almost illegal fun . Any black series owners interested in these modifications i can put you in touch with hermann directly ( no affiliation ) . Finally when you are not in the mood it's a nice reasonably comfy merc with auto box, I pod , bluetooth and sat nav . I love the blik serious it is king Amg for me .
Can you pm me hermann's contact details Baf?

Cheers

This story/thread was posted yesterday, I then left my house, drove up the road, turned right onto Hyndland Road (Hyndland, Glasgow approx. 18:00) and I saw one of these!? Not a standard AMG, but a genuine wide arched black series. I didn't get a photo (I know... rolleyes ) but I have no reason to lie smile and hopefully the owner was out because he read this thread and will therefore confirm my story......

I love the looks of this with the rear diffuser especially and also the wide-er arches.

I have driven the Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Coupe (the regular one) at MB World in 2008 as a little present to myself. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. And i am a BMW man. This was the first AMG i ever driven and possibly the first MB! I loved the sounds of the engine sounded so meaty! The straights were not long enough to enjoy the engine! I loved the discrete looks of the CLK and given it is a very rare i was interested to see how it compared to a E46 M3 CS! I managed to drift it around the low-grip circle at Mercedes-Benz World which i was well chuffed about and it definetely made my month.....one of the highlights of the year for me

I still rate the CLK Black as up there with the most fun cars I've ever driven. I would genuinely take one over, say, a Ferrari 430. It's just bat-st mental, aggressive, pointless: brilliant.

Having listened to WTDoom wax lyrical about these cars since 2007 I took the plunge in late 2010 and bought one. I shll never look back. It is the car that I have been looking for, for many years and even after 18 months of ownership my love for it hasn't wavered in the slightest. I have owned GT3, GT2, 993s, 996, 997, F40, Stradales, CSL and many more and I can honestly say that this car has more heart, soul and charm than they all did. Its a keeper!

I visited Doom today to sample his gearbox and the craftsmanship that MKB have applied is stupendous. The box is now quicker changing up and down and the throttle blip and rev matching going dwn the box is 100% perfection. I would be keen to hear Chris Harris's comments if he ventures along to try Dooms car. I visited MKB along with Doom last December and they are passionate about their craft and it was Los pleasant, if not a little surprising to see how the business resembled more that of a typical old school English tuning shop rather than what we have come to expect of modern tuning houses. Indeed at MKB, they focus on the whole business of tuning through real world engineering and not just plug and play electronics.

I took my own car to the Isle of Man and Spa last year. On both trips the car aquited itself really rather well and on the IOM, up against some much more modern machinery (997TT DMS, LP560, Gallardo, GT3RS, 430 etc), TBH the only car that was in the same league was the DMS mapped 997TT. At Spa the Black surprised many and with better tyres, would (will be) surprising many more.

So in summary, residuals are bullet proof on these at the moment. You can use them everyday (but this would miss the point), and on the track. The Black is real world supercar fast - Just ask the owner of the Ferrari 458 at VMAX today!!! The cars don't cost the earth to service, parts are reasonable and rarity is assured. What more could a petrol head want?

They got the styling spot on with this. It is perfect. The fact that it's a good steer, has a great noise and provides a huge smile means IMO it's one of the best cars released in quite a while. I'd love one.

The asking price is ridiculous. They haven't even taken off the original VAT, let alone figured the fact it is used into the equation. Aside from that, lovely car.

When I lived in Queenstown NZ, a local nightclub owner had a white one... Looked beautiful and even rarer over there!

No contest , 991 is a boring mass produced taxi in comparison .Not that ridiculous a price for a pristine one of 19 black series in the entire British isles IMHO .

Having owned plenty of new mass produced sports cars and watched them lose value continually through my ownership which is what a 991 will certainly do too, I would say that the low volume manufacturer "specials" are a far better place to put money into. The 964 & 996RS, 360CS, F40 and others of this ilk all bear testimony to this and if not done already, will certainly do in time. In this area the logical thought process that these cars should have lost their VAT is not applicable. It's supply and demand and before too long now these cars will have found the owners that "get" them, and will remain with them for some time. That will never be the case with mainstream models such as the 991.
