jealousy is an emotion. and one very few people admit to. it's intangible and clandestine nature makes evidence tricky to come by.

not many surveys of delinquents will realise the output "yes, i scratched that car because i am jealous of that person's possessions...."

so i'm not sure what evidence you expect to find!
even one stating differences in reports of car vandalism would be good. preferably with some historical reporting so we could see trends within the country

obviously it would need to be apportioned to population numbers, and possibly would be affected by the numbers of cars in the country, but it could give some very good indications of differences between jealousy acted out in different countries.

i think morrissey may have contended this point a while back. and, imo, he had a point.

oh right, I see, and agree.

Actually I think it is on-topic. I am suggesting that british jealousy is no worse than any other country, the actual difference is how we perceive our own country against others.

I'd be happy to change my opinion if I saw half decent evidence to the contrary

My only envy of foreigners is they seem to get better weather than us and that depresses us.

heil comrade.

i do think you are missing the point here though.

I am not saying britain is a wonderful place, or even nice. All I am saying as british people are far too negative about britain, whether this is some inbuilt social issue, or media manipulation or government or whatever I don't really care.

human nature is the same across the world, we are no more jealous here than in any other country.

Still after several requests, and I have tried looking myself, I see no evidence I am incorrect,
Capitalize "britain"; lower case shows a lack of Patriotism.

It's slightly safer. Murder rate of 0.81 vs our 1.23. Thankfully neither are close to the 4.8 of where you live. wink
slightly?? looks like the UK is 50% less safe from your figures...
And 400% safer than America. So 'slightly' is relative.

That murder rate is surprisingly low in America when you consider the nation has more guns than people.

Canada has a higher guntongue outerson ratio and a much lower murder rate. Gun ownership has very little to do with it.

Referring to us as "unsafe"; I should whack you for that comment!

Less people in Canada, more room for people to run away from those with guns.

I wouldn't say gun ownership has very little to do with it. Nations with tight gun control have far lower gun death rates than America, so either Americans are naturally homicidal - more so than everybody else - or its because other countries put less guns in peoples hands.

It's roughly halved since the 80s. I'd have been worried about your threat then.

Interesting side topic, go read what Steven Levitt puts the US crime drop of the 90s down to.

You can quote as many studies and figures as you want but the undeniable truth is this: Civilians having guns is a stupid idea.

Switzerland. Very high gun ownership, very low murder rate.

I was wrong about Canada having more guns by the way, just looked it up.

But still, the correlation between gun ownership and murder rate is pretty weak.

The Swiss are prone to shoot themselves rather frequently though you will find...

Probably more to do with the degree of crowding and the expectation of what is unrealistically contained in the Bill of Rights like the right to have bare arms. wink
Not to forget The American Dream.
The Swiss have no dream, they've already achieved it.

I disagree. We have had them for hundreds of years. You think only the government should be armed? Perhaps it is your view that is stupid.
