This is going to sound condescending. This is because it is meant to be.

But here is the thing: In life it really, really matters that one carries an opinion that people listen to. Offering an opinion that is taken seriously, is one of the great skills people need to succeed.

Developing an opinion and the means to express it, is something that should be based on experience, wisdom, perception and some grace.

Now trust me on this. You are'nt very good at this offering opinion malarkey.

Any fool can offer an opinion. Offering an opinion worth listening too, well that is a different matter altogether.

You need to work on that.

No. You do. Really.

An opinion based on ignorance is not a valid opinion since it has no credible basis .

Having just spent the afternoon hooning around Rockingham in XF's XJs and XK's I can honestly say they are damn fine cars.

The XJ L Supersport is just yikes incredible.

People hat drive Jags and really really want you to know they drive a jag. Had a guy pop into the workshop a while back holding his key in such a way that so that you could see it was a jag key, then went on to explain "my jaguar has a scratch on it, obviously from someone jealous of the car because its a jaguar." gave the chappy a quote and he continued "now you are going to be using the proper jaguar paint arent you? it is a jaguar and I want nothing but jaguar products on it" At this point I decided he was a customer id rather not take on and sent him to the st bodyshop down the road assuring him it was only Jag paints they use.
Says it all really!

At risk of keeping this on topic, I've got to say what an excellent blog and video to compliment it. Very insightful and a good example of what Jag do these days.

I was more than a bit distracted (and dare I say entertained) by the ridiculous off topic content which took my focus away from the blog updates - if you haven't read them yet, I suggest revisiting the original article (or just watch the vid!).

I can sort of understand the view some people still have of Jags as I would still consider myself far too young to own one. Well, this would be had I not experienced some of their latest range a few months ago. Even then, after 'winning' a weekend in a new XKR, I wasn't that excited about the prospect because, well, I wasn't that interested in driving an old-mans cruiser! Shameful...because when I did drive it the thing blew me away with what an impressive all-rounder performance GT it is. The biggest thing that stood out for me wasnt the performance - whilst very fast and quicker than probably 99% of cars on the road, if you've experienced a 911 Turbo then it's certainly no quicker than that. No, it was more on how it just 'works' on our broken roads - the body control, damping and ability to cover ground very fast on undulating, bumpy or broken surfaces is better than any German cars I've had. It may not work as well in track as a 911 or even an e92 M3, but considering my track time is, ooooh, 0.01% of my driving, I'm happy to accept such a compromise for a road car! The video really highlights the effort that goes into engineering the bits you can't see and the fact this is so noticeable in everyday use is a testament to those engineers.

Still, there's clearly still a lot of work to be done on image and public perception as this, and numerous other threads about Jaguars shows. I wouldnt have blinked an eyelid at any negative post a few months ago but now, after driving one, I can appreciate how good they are - I wont even say how good they have become as for all I know, they may always have been good but at least now they have the design to back up the engineering.

So much so that in the last 6 months I've bought 3 of them (just one at a time chaps with one of those being just a deposit on the new F-Type so I reallly do appear to be a new convert smile ). This, from a someone who rarely stepped outside the comfort zone of BMW, Mercedes and Porsche! The fact it's designed and a largely engineered in the UK is a bonus and should be celebrated (ok, ok....this from someone who has spent 12 years buying foreign kit and yes, I have chosen to forget the fact it's Indian owned wink )

And going slightly off topic, Jules - whilst I understand and can almost relate to your opinion about the Jaguar brand (and may have wrongly agreed with it until recently), some of your statements were just plain wrong but most importantly, without first hand experience of the products in question, the way you expressed your opinion vs other brands was never going to be most effective way of getting your point across. Oh, and my XKR (with IMHO the best real-world bucket seats out there) appears to have nothing other than leather and alcantarta on show wink

And here is something else for the resident fool..

The new 5.0 V8 Jaguar engine in its supercharged form. More than 520bhp. Few mass produced engines are as good.

A fabulous, efficient, grunty engine. Better than an Aston V8 by miles.

If it was an AMG engine people would be shouting from the roof tops about it.

It will send the car (XF, XJ or XK) sideways at any opportunity and yet in daily use it does 25mpg ( not much less than the Pistonheads fleet Golf GTI).

It is a much, much, much better V8 than the one Porsche use.

And yet, somehow, you think a fking Mondeo is relavent to the conversation?

All you have shown is that your car knowledge needs a lot of work.

Go back and earn your PH stripes, fella. Come back when you know what you are talking about. smile

First post, new joiner, although have been a visitor for several years. Have not driven any of the current Jags but certainly think they all look more distintive than their german rivals, and people who should know what they are talking about all seem to think the cars have what it takes, and then some. I think the mondeo remark was originally meant as a throw-away joke, akin to the oft used 911/beetle one, and just got blown out of proportion and should have been dropped. I don't get the Scorpio reference either.

At the age of 19 what cars do you expect me to have owned? These are all decent car choices for someone of my age(one of them being given to me by a car dealer as payment for work I had done) If insurance would allow I would be driving less boring cars, I bought these cars out of circumstance, you chose to buy yours smile
So what you are saying is that you are a smart mouth teenager that should respect other peoples car choice because you yourself cant afford anything better...

No not really, I dont like the car regardless of being able to afford it or not. I didnt realise you needed to own the car to form an oppinion on it, good luck explaining that one to the rest of PH. Get off your high horse mate smile
