RE: PH liveblog: flat out with Jag
Discussion
Any Supercharged Jag can reach 150+ very quickly/easily. 174mph is always going to be more risky than 74mph, but to call someone an idiot or suggest it's inherently unsafe is moronic.
Let's calm down a bit and just enjoy the story. He's not doing anything wrong/illegal, and being a motoring journo with plenty of miles under his belt, I'm sure he's sensibile enough to assess the situation he's presented with and only go as fast as he/the car/the road is capable of.

Bit OT but does anyone know if the stretch of A5 between Offenburg and Frieburg is unrestricted?
The A5 is a bh... lots of traffic... I only drive the norther part of it in between Frankfurt and Karlrsruhe and there is mainly restricted to 130kph.V88Dicky said:

the problem with driving fast on Autobahn of today is that people are economizing, you can tell they are driving slower to save fuel. Gone are the times when people were fully aware of very fast cars and would anticipate and plan overtaking well in advance. Just as in real life the differences on the autobahn have also broaden, you now have very few very fast cars and those that are doing 70-80ish (or less) but because there is much less of those fasties slower people are not that careful and you end up braaaaaakiiiiing while your posh LED braking lights will go mad as all those lets-keep-this-idiot-alive systems kick in.

That's true. I was surprised by how few people were rocking along above 120mph when I was over there last week. In fact, probably the fastest car I encountered was a a Focus turbodiesel, of all things. 140mph indicated on my speedo and I was barely catching it... ArosaMike said:

This is one story that I'd be choosing to write retrospectively.
Poor editorial decision.

No matter how impressively quick or well equipped they are I can never tear myself away from thinking they are just a sporty mondeo
I think money would be better spent on a porker..
Are you mad?I think money would be better spent on a porker..
Is there any connection whatever between Jaguar's current line up, and the Ford Mondeo?
Thought not.
Correct me if im wrong but I believe but I do believe it was the Jag X-Type that shared the production line with the ford mondeo.
Id consider myself more than just a 'pub expert' having worked in car bodywork since I left school and helping out at numerous historic rally events, besides there is no guidelines saying pub experts are not allowed on PH!
Simply voicing my oppinion that money would be better spent on a 911 instead!

You are wrong, it never shared the production line, it used a somewhat modified Mk1 Mondeo 4wd platform.Id consider myself more than just a 'pub expert' having worked in car bodywork since I left school and helping out at numerous historic rally events, besides there is no guidelines saying pub experts are not allowed on PH!

We're talking XJ here anyway not X-type.
And why buy a 911 if you want a large 4 door super saloon?
