I think you are getting a bit too over upset because my oppinion is not the same as yours, you essentially just said I was wrong and then proved me right in one sentence..

Sorry I didnt realise my prefered car had to come from the 4 door super saloon category, in which case I choose... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3752522.htm

Probably in estrelle blue though!

No matter how impressively quick or well equipped they are I can never tear myself away from thinking they are just a sporty mondeo frown
I think money would be better spent on a porker..
I'd still take the sporty Mondeo over the sporty beetle.
Exactly my thoughts by the same logic a Porsche is a sporty VW, A Bentley is an Audi/VW and so forth.

Correct me if im wrong but I believe but I do believe it was the Jag X-Type that shared the production line with the ford mondeo.
Id consider myself more than just a 'pub expert' having worked in car bodywork since I left school and helping out at numerous historic rally events, besides there is no guidelines saying pub experts are not allowed on PH!

Simply voicing my oppinion that money would be better spent on a 911 instead!
You are wrong, it never shared the production line, it used a somewhat modified Mk1 Mondeo 4wd platform.

We're talking XJ here anyway not X-type.

And why buy a 911 if you want a large 4 door super saloon?
Quite. People should get their facts right first!

@ Six Fiend, I refuse to take advice/criticism from the man who previously drove a Daweoo and a Nemo and now drives an X-Type. YAWN.

They should also learn to spell 'opinion'. Not that I'm trying to take the p... God that was terrible.

I love these things, was in Nuremberg for a week in October last year and every day the owner of our company would pit his Cayenne Turbo S against the Jag.

What a pointless comment! You have rendered anything you have said pointless by bringing his car choice into it!

What a pointless comment! The whole discussion started because of a car choice!
Besides what is the point of the 'My Garage' section of we can not admire or mock others car choices.

No the discussion started because Dan has got himself on a promo gig to Germany and back.
This sub discussion started because you threw a random insult and then said you would rather drive something different entirely that was out of scope.

But hey, Im still lost on the whole Mondeo gag!

How was it a random insult?? I said id rather drive a different car, I think you are taking this out of context...

The mondeo gag is the old x-type shared the production line with the old ford mondeo's.

Sorry, I didnt realise I wasnt able to voice my oppinion on the car in this article, and sorry my comment about past Jag's clearly holds no relevance or tie ins to newer versions.

Yes a brief look on Wiki will tell you that, but you are looking at the mk1 Mondeo, try the mk3 Mondeo smile

Infact - Ford CD132 platform which was used to produce both the Mondeo and later the X-Type, apology please?

The X-Type did indeed share a platform with the Mondeo, but only in the same way that the Skoda Superb shares a platform with the VW Passat, or indeed the Volvo V50 shared a platform with the previous generation Focus.

A platform is merely the basic engineering 'laguage' of a cars floorplan. Taking the X-Type as an example, it shared similar floorplan pressings to the Mondeo and similar subframe pickup points, but every other body panel and structural element of the monocoque, and the entire subframes themselves were Jaguar designed components that only existed in the X-Type. Furthermore, the entire transmission tunnel and rear chassis section were completely bespoke due to the requirement for 4WD.

I take it you realise there isn't a single car on sale today that isn't based on another one? The XJ is a stretched and widened XK shell, the 3, 5 and 7 Series BMWs are all based from the same basic arcitecture and share suspension components, VW's platforms cover all Audi, Skoda and SEAT products and the Cayenne shares it's entire body structure with the Toureg.

The X-Type wasn't a particularly successful car no, but how this bares any relation to the XJ mentioned in the blog I really don't know!

Again context, its when you take a joke to this extreme it stops being funny..

I was simply poking fun at Jag's I think it has all been blow out of proportion and clearly the many Jag owners I upset didnt like it.
