I'm not sure how I'm trolling, I said that jags are not my car of choice upset a bunch of proud jag owners and now defending my opinions? I thought trolling was getting rowdy with someone for having a different opinion to you?

I'm not upset, I merely corrected a mistake you made regarding the platforms and production lines. I would refer to this as offering education based on experience and knowledge. You seemed not to like this and chose to ridicule two of the many vehicles I have owned. The 16 or so motorcycles are not listed on here wink

You also mention the Jags being Mondeos on a thread about XJs. As you failed to use a smiley indicating a mickey take I'm not the only one who began to wonder if you had the faintest idea of what you were talking about.

Whilst picking up on my choice of vehicles you failed to see the irony of your statement regarding circumstances/needs dictating choices. Now, some might say you're plain thick, others may assert that you are indeed playing at being a wind up merchant i.e troll.

I'll just opt for you being very young with much to learn about life smile

What a load of old tosh. You over reacted because I have said I don't like jags, in true jag owner form you have got defensive and have gone on this big old rant and tried to be insulting. Clearly we will have to agree to disagree.

Please be quiet, you are making us young ones look bad and re-inforcing the 'we are always right' stereotype. For the last time, the Ford Mondeo and X-type were built in completely different factories. I suggest you read this rather excellent article: http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/2011/07/12/the-car...

Also, being young is no excuse for having a boring car. I've owned the Triumph since I was 16.

Well done to you, im sure you are proud. There is a nice mk3 Escort sat on the driveway but at the moment its a non-runner with not MOT or tax. Not that it really matters to you but my car choices have been down to the mileage I do every year, cant really afford to run a big fuel drinker, fairly typical car choices for a young car driver I think you will find smile

Congratulations to engineers and all at Jaguar for producing such a fine range of modern, high performance vehicles, The heritage at Jaguar continues to be reinforced, well done Tata for seeing the potential in this true UK business, and hard luck Ford for probably having to sell due to their own problems.
I will make do with my V12 XJS manual and Series 1 fhc E Type unless I am offered a straight swop for one of these, not really as insurance will not be as cost effective as classic car status.

Please no young whingers posting on about Mondeo and X Types rants as a reply - this is my post.

You do know that the Series 1 fhc E Type was built on the same line as a Cortina?

St John Smythe
Bit OT but does anyone know if the stretch of A5 between Offenburg and Frieburg is unrestricted?

Yes it is unrestricted, but it can get congested at times particularly between Lahr and Rust (exit for Europa Park). Also aproaching Frieburg can be very busy. It's all two lanes apart from the section around Offenburg. It is restricted when you get south of Freiburg towards Basel. Hope this helps.

As we are a little off topic please feel free to PM me if I can help with more detail.

What a strange thread.

Lets get back to basics.

Any reference to Mondeo's is , frankly, ill-conceived and ignorant bks. All it does is reveal that the poster concerned is trying to cover his ignorance by being more assertive. Whatever, it is still bks.

I may as well say that I don't like Porsches because at one stage the Porsche 924 was powered by an engine that was a development from a VW transporter van. While true, this clearly has nothing do to with a Porsche 911.

In just the same way, referencing a Mondeo has nothing to do with a supercharged V8 saloon from Jaguar. All it does is make people look stupid.

Back to the thread, i have to applaud Jaguar. Under their new owners, this is a confident and optimistic company. Making the effort ( and spending the money ) to promote their cars like this is a great thing to do. It shows that they are dedicated to moving jaguar forward.

I was lucky enough to go to a Jaguar drivers day at Thruxton recently. I drove the supercharged Xf, XJ and XK around the Thruxton circuit, with a professional in the passenger seat really encouraging me to give it the beans. I ended up doing some very quick circuits - much faster than I expected.

I have a new respect for Jaguar. They are terrific cars. I would never have considered one in the past , but I definitely will now.

I was particularly fond of a black XFR V8 I drove - with no chrome and dark anthracite alloys, it was very mean looking indeed and a world away from the old image of Jaguar.

They are doing great things. And they are built by people who care , here in the UK.

There is a lot to celebrate here.

Im fortunate enough through my job to have driven a lot of nice cars, you get into a Porsche, Aston, Bentley etc and it is instantly apparent you are in an incredible machine, get into a Jag and its plasticy and poorly built. But what do I know?
I've always found Bentleys look at bit... Passat-ish. You get in them and it's like someone's just used all plasticky stuff from a VW. Did you know that all VW-era Bentleys are actually built on Polo chassisisis that have literally been stretched out in a tug of war by VW employees. Ergo, they rubbish. Fact.

Also, Aston Martin used to be owned by Ford too, and therefore all their engines start out as Ka blocks superglued together.

Porsche? Built on an old Beetle production line in Brazil. The German 'factory' is fake - it just has the same bits going round and round in circles.

Still, all Jags are worse, cos they're just a Mondeo. And they look the same. Right?

I like the comment on the exhaust note playing the dambusters theme. Didn't Red Bull or one of the other F1 teams have an engine that could be programmed to play music? Obviously with no flywheel the change in tone can be quite quick but surely the same could be done on any engine? Just need to work out the RPM requirement for each tone and set up an electronic throttle control. A bit of programming and you could have a great way to annoy your neighbours?!!
Off to the garage ;-)

May I ask what that job is? As most companies within the motor industry have restrictions on who can drive what at what age.

Not quite sure how this pretty worthy PH topic descended into the farce that this thread now is.

JulesB, know when to back down, Its a good trait to learn, you are making yourself look foolish now.

Anyone who has been in a recent jag would know how they have moved their game on in giant leaps and bounds. I had a 99 XKR and it was a good car but these new ones are in a different league. I'm not sure how you could describe them as less than great frankly. They are absolutely a world apart from a Mondeo and to disagree isnt just a difference of opinion, its just silly and more importantly, wrong.
