The mx5 is one of the best selling 2 seater sports cars in the world, and for a very good reason.
+1. I will own an MX-5 at some point. They are great fun and best of all, affordable. I'm surprised more manufacturers don't offer a direct competitor.

Interested to read how much you enjoyed the Campbeltown (Kintyre) peninsula. It's a part of the world I know very well and over the years, have enjoyed many early morning blasts down there. When I had my Elise, I would set off from home (near Edinburgh) at 5am and experience empty, smooth roads with some great "straights and twisties" - just what the Elise was made for. South of Tarbert is probably the most exhilarating as you run along the side of the Atlantic Ocean, with Northern Ireland in clear sight (it's only c12 miles from the Mull of Kintyre). Hit that part on a clear sunny morning and, for me, that's driving heaven....
Hear, hear. We holidayed in Torrisdale, near Carradale on the East coast of Kintyre for some years. One of the best years was when I took my 3 door Cossie. The road from Tarbert to Campbeltown down the East coast of the Kintyre peninsula is awesome, although you do have to be careful of the locals coming the other way, taking their half out of the middle of the road and travelling 30mph faster than you can because they've been driving that road all their lives.

Pathetic. You can't even type properly. You clearly know nothing.

If a team of engineers were given a blank piece of paper to start designing a 2-seater sports car, what they'd come up with wouldn't be far off an MX5 (Mk1 !) Unlike many cars, that was designed from the out set as being a RWD 2-seater car; double-wishbone suspension all round, torque tube prop, twin-cam 16-valve longitudinally mounted all alloy engine. Amazing steering feel.

But of course, you knew all that.

Yeah, they're cheap!

I've had 3 of them, by far one of the most overrated cars ever made.

Just because something is cheap doesn't mean it is good! Value perhaps a better word

Where exactly did i say they were not good due to being cheap? He stated they sell well, i stated it's because they're cheap.

You must be taking an interesting route. This morning you wakened looking at the isle of Jura and are now heading
to the Highlands(taken from Facebook). The first picture of your blog shows the MX5 pictured in front of what looks
like Eileen Donan Castle which is well into the Highlands.
That aside glad you are getting the weather, at present the sun is out in Inverness and should be for the rest of the day.

They don't sell well solely because they are cheap! There are plenty of cheap cars around.

So people that have owned one or more, have an opinion that differs to yours, yet you've not owned one. And that makes them a troll, please explain.

As i have stated, i have owned 3 of them, along with many, many other cars. In my opinion, the MX5 is vastly overrated. It is a fun car, i'll give it that, but it's not this amazing "drivers" car that some people claim it to be. They're no better or worse than it's main competitors over the years, mainly the MR2 & the MGF. It could even be argued that the fwd Fiat Barchetta is more fun to drive.

It's one of the main reasons, & that was part of Mazda marketing strategy. Do you have any point?

Ah, apologies for the confusion - the first shot was from last year's trip! That must have had you scratching your head I realise! Needed a 'sell the dream' lead shot and thought that better than one from the middle lane of the M6!

I did a little tour of Scotland in the s2k a year (or two?) ago. Went Edinborough to Glasgow, to Ben Nevis, Isle of Mull, Eilean Donan, through some mountains and far away...to Applecross. Then on to Aviemore. I think that's the order anyway. Did some free tobogganing at Aviemore where I slightly acidently veered into a rather large man at the bottom of the slope. V. good scenic tour, beautiful country.

I really like the idea of getting a MX5. Will I be massively dissapointed if I switch from a 2007 Civic Type R to a 2005 MX5? 1.8
