The RX8 should be used above 7k revs as often as possible i realise the nay-sayers will be along shortly with tales of no compression/chocolate engine etc

Jasandjules said: TVRs tend to, it's just they get to the speed limit rather quickly........ Openly admit my Chim is hard work round town in stop-start traffic, added to which it is HC so is quite lumpty below 2k it really is at home on B and A roads!

The peugeot 106 Rallye I just got rid of,
1.3 8v that really was all or nothing. When the idle control valve went it did make for 1 or 2 interesting drives before I got it fixed.

My cerb feels like a caged animal that just wants to be released, it much prefers being driven with lots of revs & really gets going at about 5.500rpm & hates low speed stop start traffic.
I would imagine the vtec engines from honda enjoying a good thrashing & benefit from being driven hard.

Just begged to be wrung by the neck and thrown around. It was a combo of a ridiculously eager engine, great sound, fast steering and enough 'rawness'
Great car *siiigh* I miss it. All of this. Fine car indeed. Really miss mine too. And, know what? In 50K miles, never missed a beat despite being driven like it was someone else's

May I humbly suggest the Caterham 7?
Mine has a little voice that says "Go on, put your foot down, let me show you what I can do..."
I choose to ignore this little voice. Sometimes.

I choose to ignore this little voice. Sometimes. You may indeed...it screams to be thrashed.

I've an Alfa GT junior that has always been a temptress. Always whispering that the johnny come lately TDi needs showing how to do bends, and that every use of the brakes is an admission of failure. This is fine. With 110-120hp to play with it tends to be at legal speeds. Recently a Griffith joined the Alfa. She is a bad, bad car. Apparently, I know I want to! Let's not talk bikes!

RX-8, what other car has better fuel economy when you are constantly beeping the rev warning light than when you drive like a granny.
One of the few cars that does not struggle with hard driving and hard revving. Everything is geared for it, the suspension, the rotary free revving engine, the weight, the balance.

Grovsie26 said: Are you mad? Thay have so little torque and power out of VTEC you have to constantly get out and push. iirc, off VTEC they develop a good chunk of power and torque from quite low in the revs about 150-160bhp from 3000rpm, with the final surge at the top when the VTEC cam takes over. This does give the power delivery a Jekyll and Hyde character, but they aren't slouchy off the VTEC, more than enough power for day to day sensible driving. I don't quite understand this "Type Rs have no power off-cam" mindset, it's as if the people spouting this did not realise that Honda intended you to drive it to the limiter. Need some pace for a quick overtake, then keep your foot in and let it rip! The Type Rs are the king of driving hard, they do revel in blasting about. Even better with an unsilenced exhaust, ridiculous touring car noise complete with pops and bangs on every gear shift. Simply brilliant fun.

My 205s - they seem to behave better when being thrashed. Nothing quite like feeling a car go light on a twisty bumpy single track road.

The 309 isn't particularly good for a steady speed commute or similar, it's rattly and a bit jerky and generally feels its age. Plant your foot and throw it around a bit and it comes alive and feels just right with great feedback.

Chalk up another vote for the Puma and 205 GTi.
Although the Ford feels a lot less likely to kill you, and sounds good enough at high revs to impress my FN2 CTR owning mate

Twisty roads are great fun in it. Agreed (got one), although my vote would go to my old 1.6 205 GTi

My old 325ti. It just wanted to live between 4.5k and the red-line, preferably whilst being flung down a back-road
