video from evo here http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/trackdayvideos/282994/...

interesting, not only was it 5 seconds slower over a 1:30 lap (ie about 5% slower) but also it was a whole lot less enjoyable and adjustable than the fwd Megane.

Auto BRZ? Why is this not mentioned at all in the video or write up?

Mentions it in the mag

You'll see more drifting of a small coupe in this one if that's your bag - twice the price though

I was wondering if I should have posted that video in the GT86/BRZ vs MX5 thread, but thought in might fan the flames slightly hehe Was I the only one cringing at the slushbox gearchanges on the BRZ?

yep but same price and same target market...

there is nothing worse than an auto box in a 4cyl when you are trying to drive fast or enjoy yourself. they just feel limp and very elasticy. madness as to why subaru have sent over an auto press car.

I think they must have missed out on all the manual demo ones when they were allocated. Hopefully Autocar will get a manual for their in-depth road test

When Henry picked the car up "At this point the auto box is a bit of a boon.It wouldn't have been our first choice but our hands were tied...."

When Jethro wrote the main article, "I have to admit that my heart sinks when I discover our BRZ is fitted with the optional six-speed auto box..."

All in all, it doesn't look like it suits Evo magazine journalists' driving style, hence why they're saying it's not fun.

I know the Toyota has slightly different suspension settings, but clearly it seems that some of these journalists find it easy to hoon and get the back end out, where as others find it a chore.

I'm obviously missing something; why is the induction method important for the comparison or lap times?

Didn't we have a massive thread on this last week? It turned into a stupid RWD Vs FWD 'debate' iirc.

Traditional sort.

I think that Evo test is great news for BMW, it means they can make all their cars into nose heavy front wheel drivers, bin the costly independent rear suspension and chuck all the six cylinder engines for blown four pots and Evo won't have a bad word to say about it.

Not sure if they're really the same target market? Hot hatch v coupe?

Plus the BRZ is not about outright speed.

I wonder how much money and how many sales the decision to give an auto (a car that just will not sell in the uk) to one of the leading magazines in one of the world's biggest sports car markets is going to cost?

The executive who made that decision needs to be shot in front of his family for the loss of sales he has possibly caused.

In fact EVO should have had more balls and simply said "We ain't driving this. There is no point in us testing and promoting a vehicle that is not going to register in the minds of the majority of the driving populace of the UK."

It seems that Saburu's problems are not going away, because the company is run by idiots.

Subaru have chosen to make an automatic version of the car. They have made versions of it available to the press, and are obviously keen to promote it. That is not a mistake.

If anyone made a mistake, it is Evo, in using that version of the car for a track comparison against a totally different, manual car. The person who decided to run with the auto version and create some bad journalism is the one who should be 'shot in front of his family'.
