Tonsko said: Does anyone reckon that the MkIV R32 will eventually appreciate? Or will it just degenerate? it should do, the R32 has a cult following (Awesome noise) but unfortunately VW flooded the UK with cheap MKVs at the end of the production run making them more common, the MKIV is a rarer beast. There is about 2k MKIVs and 5k MKVs

Dave Hedgehog said: which will be the best selling car ever in a couple of years, maybe 2013 Meh, doesnt exactly add any credits to its claim of being a classy hot hatch, as it turns out, when it comes to cars, milions of people CAN be wrong. Not to mention that saying the Golf is the best selling car ever only works because VW kept the name, a MK6 has just about nothing in common with a MK1. Opel might be able to claim some ridiculous numbers as well, if they hadnt renamed the Kadet to Astra

Either that or the answer from the owner when you ask them "What have you done to your car?" will be "like dub scene'd innit bruv".

I've owned most of these cars (147GTA, R32, S3). They all have plus and negative points. None of them are perfect at everything so it depends which compromises you want to trade off. One thing to note, for similar coin you can now buy far superior machinery, such as the Audi S4. Does it really need to be a hatch?

If the meaning of classy is a car that isn't chavvy and seen too often on council estates being driven by benefit cheats then for me it's either:
Alfa 147 GTA MK5 R32 MK2 Audi S3 BMW 130i
I'd argue that no hot-hatch is ever classy though.

A Williams Clio, like the beauty at the PHSS today, could be the alarm clock of a council estate or the envy of a posh borough. I've a R32 and I'd like to think it's a car that blends in nicely. Having said that there's a C30 T5 a few doors down and that's a really good Q-car.
