I thought 19mpg sounded silly.
So I'll say it again, only an idiot would by a 'sporty' coupe and pick the diesel engine.

Unless they like the looks.

Seriously, there are plenty of people out there who like how cars look, but don't drive them anyway near hard enough to care if its a petrol or a diesel.

Not really fair to call them idiots.

It is.

What has driving a car hard got to do with it?

WTF ???

The diesel engine manages to move a RCZ from place to place perfectly acceptably.

By inferring 'sporty' cars needing to be petrol, you imply a certain style of driving. One which rewards faster than average responses and therefore driven 'harder'.

As I said, if all the owner wants is the car to look good but otherwise just wants it to perform as an average car, then why not have a diesel. Not my preference, but I would not call people idiots for driving a diesel RCZ or TT etc.

I've not implied any style of driving.
In pretty much any type of road driving, if we take mpg out of the equation, a petrol will be better.

Using the phrase 'sporty' and stating that a diesel is not suitable does imply how the engine character affects the 'sportiness' of the car, ie how it drives.

To people who don't care about driving as a pleasure then it does not make one jot of difference if its a diesel or a petrol. The car still moves from A to B and to be honest the difference is not huge.

I agree that the petrol would be better fun, its my preference but I still argue that its unfair to call someone an idiot just because they have a diesel RCZ.

Everytime I see an RCZ I die a little inside, and vomit a little in my mouth....

Seriously, I can understand french cars are generally crap and like to disassemble themselves, like a reverse kit car of sorts - which I suppose can be fun. But. And its a big(ish) but, there are (were) always gems. Clio 182, amazing fun. Clio V6 bonkers but still fun in a scary way. 205 gti 1.6/9 (who gives a damn it handled nice enough). 106 rallye. etc.

Although since 2000 peugeot has not made a single car that has been passable.... I have and will again refuse to get in one and have walked to my destination (breaking my "if its over 100m rule"). There not acceptable on any level; even for old people who don't care what they drive....

And on another note, its clearly just a poor copy of another not very good looking car - The one and only 4 ringed titty. Although, thats at least a good car in most other respects.

The Mini, looks ermm... yeah. But I imagine will be a hoot, and quick enough to annoy the bigger boys.

And Peugeot, it 2012. Why can't you build a car with over 200bhp? Never mind your flagship sports car....

Rant over :P

Agreed. Interestingly, the RCZ is assembled in Austria.

Glad they still make things in hams hall. We used to have our central workshop there

They only make the MINI engine there; while they shared the same initial design, they are produced separately, and each manufacturer has applied different tweaks to the engine, so they're not exactly the same.

I believe the PSA Prince engine is indeed produced in France.
