How much would it cost to insure this vehicle?

As a non- UK resident sometimes I find the vehicle prices in UK just so unbelievably low.
For me, at 25, about £1000/year. Add a few years in age and it drops to <£400. At 40-odd my Father had the V8 version insured (when they were worth £15-20k) for about £450.

No.
hehe
A FWD car with nasty squinty headlights? No. Not even if I lived in Perlethorpe Avenue, Gedling, Nottingham.

Also autotrader links give out your post code, which is bad if you don't want your VW fleet stolen to order while you sleep.

Hmmmm ....does that lump plus charger fit into an XJS?

That was my first thought .... my second was flog the Skoda, buy this and spend the change on keeping it fuelled for the 130 mile round trip daily commute. But sadly, even with man maths, that doesn't really work.

Top shed anyway clap

Autotrader gives out the postcode you use in the search .... no one actually uses their own for posting links do they?

Amazing car in every way but, erm, I just can't think of use for it. Probably not worth the cost of an LPG conversion so not useable every day (unless you own an oil refinery) - but then you'd have a new one anyway.

A sad way to look at it I know!
Would this car not be cheaper to run then any 15K pound car you buy new.

Your new car would loose 5K pounds in its first 12 months, you are never going to have to spend 5.000 pound in extra fuel for the same milage right?

All this ofcourse if it does not brake down. But even then you come out on top. The fuel consumption stops and you have only lost 1.000 pounds.

So I am guessing that this shed is cheaper during two years then any bland Focus, Astra, KIA,...

Am I wrong?

God I love old XJs. About a million times better looking than that ghastly new XJ.

Not everyone is paranoid.

It was his first post, so I sort of assumed he was a newbie. I'm sure it's the postcode of the local police station/religeous cult/something.

Won't be too long until a 308 creeps down into this territory.
There was also an XJ40 XJR. This was a TWR package with a rather Halfords-looking bodykit and just a mildy tweaked 4.0 straight six. It was, however, the first "R" road car from Jaguar (I guess there was also the XJR-S too though).

For me there's something regal and accutely British about these that can be traced all the way back to the Blower Bentleys.

Nothing like a lump with a charger.

Great shed.

This has got to be the perfect shed: fast, old (ish), interesting, slightly down at heel and contains the potential for massive bills if it all goes wrong. smile

All of the above points are irrelevant though - at this price if you get a few months worth of use out of it and sell it for spares/break it you'll get your money back (with the possibility of a profit).

You can't lose!

If I had a spare grand kicking about (and didn't already have two cars) I'd buy the thing myself.
Couldn't put it better myself!

sure it's going to cost a few quid to run but it'll always be worth the same again for spares and scrappage. pity i'm in NI or I would've bought it frown

I've been looking at this exact car on the trader over the past week, this and a 740 for £999 which looks seriously mint.

What MPG does one expect? "30 on a run" smile

One word...Rust!!

Agree the engines are great and interior holds up well, but the chassis and body are awful from my experience. Check chassis mounts in particular.

Thank fk I spent all my money on a captain sensible Honda Civic on Wednesday.

Just going by reputation, the straight six in these is supposed to be more reliable than the later V8s. The bodywork/electrics will probably kill it off first.

There is a racing championship for XJ6s too, I wonder if they'd let XJRs in scratchchin
