RE: Driven: BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe
Discussion
bimmers next ring taxi?
I suspect it'll be significantly more than the 5 series, which makes it kinda hard to justify. I also find it wierd that the extra length adds between 70 and 90kg, depending on spec. not the overall figure, but the fact that somehow, there is a spec where the extra 5" of wheelbase adds 20kg more than another spec. They must be *really* thick carpet for 15cm to add that much weight

Looks good, but how easy is it to steal?

BMW really have lost the plot. If you took the kidney grilles off - hardly kidneys any more, more a ribcage, as they are so bloated - and put an American badge on it, it would be lampooned mercilessly for it's ugliness and total lack of taste (although BMW may counter that they are targeting the US market and have merely given in to their appalling tastes in fat humungous saloons). Awful.

I agree, BMW lost the plot a while back IMOMatt UK said:

I wouldn't think they care once the they can keep increasing the bank balance. It's all about making money, possibly to employ even more 'bright sparks' in the marketing departments. From 'The Ultimate Drivers Machine' tp 'Joy' - that says it all imo. Johnboy Mac said:

My comment was based more around my view of the BMW plot, so I should have used the IMO - but seeing as BMW sell more cars now than when I was buy them, the new business model is clearly a winner for them - and good to luck to them!

£64k - is that standard spec? I've not checked but I'm sure a boggo CLS350cdi starts at around £45k? Or have I missed the point and are they not in direct competition?
Yeah, that's standard. you could add circa £20k to reach the spec of the car we drove. But BMW wants you to think of it as a half-step above a CLS and, in all honesty, it does feel like a classier, more upscale, less 'volume' product...
...it also is a two-door that's morphed into a four-door, rather than a saloon morphing into a four-door coupe, so it kind of comes at things from the opposite direction to the Merc.
So I agree that it's a lot of money, but it is deliberately pricy...

Riggers, just from VFM point. The 6GC or a 5?But BMW wants you to think of it as a half-step above a CLS and, in all honesty, it does feel like a classier, more upscale, less 'volume' product...
