bimmers next ring taxi?

I suspect it'll be significantly more than the 5 series, which makes it kinda hard to justify. I also find it wierd that the extra length adds between 70 and 90kg, depending on spec. not the overall figure, but the fact that somehow, there is a spec where the extra 5" of wheelbase adds 20kg more than another spec. They must be *really* thick carpet for 15cm to add that much weight smile

Looks good, but how easy is it to steal?

BMW really have lost the plot. If you took the kidney grilles off - hardly kidneys any more, more a ribcage, as they are so bloated - and put an American badge on it, it would be lampooned mercilessly for it's ugliness and total lack of taste (although BMW may counter that they are targeting the US market and have merely given in to their appalling tastes in fat humungous saloons). Awful.

I agree, BMW lost the plot a while back IMO

I wouldn't think they care once the they can keep increasing the bank balance. It's all about making money, possibly to employ even more 'bright sparks' in the marketing departments. smile From 'The Ultimate Drivers Machine' tp 'Joy' - that says it all imo.

Oh no, I totally agree.

I would change my products to pink with yellow dots with a whiff of damp dog if I though I would sell more of them.

My comment was based more around my view of the BMW plot, so I should have used the IMO - but seeing as BMW sell more cars now than when I was buy them, the new business model is clearly a winner for them - and good to luck to them!

£64k - is that standard spec? I've not checked but I'm sure a boggo CLS350cdi starts at around £45k? Or have I missed the point and are they not in direct competition?

So the petrol is called the 640i, yet it has a 3 litre turbocharged engine..... errrr....
They haven't related number to capacity for some time now. New 328 uses the same 2.0 FI unit as the rest of the range - just in various states of power.

I don't find it overly offensive, but I can't imagine ever buying that when I could buy an XJ for less.

Yeah, that's standard. you could add circa £20k to reach the spec of the car we drove.

But BMW wants you to think of it as a half-step above a CLS and, in all honesty, it does feel like a classier, more upscale, less 'volume' product...

...it also is a two-door that's morphed into a four-door, rather than a saloon morphing into a four-door coupe, so it kind of comes at things from the opposite direction to the Merc.

So I agree that it's a lot of money, but it is deliberately pricy...

the BIG question is, will they be tempted to make an M version? I'd rather one of those than either an M6 coupe or M5. It appears I am in a minority but the more i look at this the more I'd love one.

Those specs make it look like they didn't bother putting effort in the petrol "40"i engine, which makes the diesel stand out as the obvious choice.

BMWs need a serious update, they are never going to be desirable while they keep regurgitating the same Bangled mess.

Probably a sparingly-specced 5. Just. If you're talking VFM the 6GC is on tough ground, because it's hard to put an objective value on something as intangible as a 'luxury' feel...
