Carroll Shelby dead
Discussion
I am fortunate enough to own a Cobra and was out in it on Saturday morning when a passerby told me of Carroll Shelbys death. I know there have been long debates about replicas on this site but isnt it a greater tribute to the man that his creation has been recreated more than any other car on the planet.
Can i suggest Cobra stripped Pistonhead Smiley stickers.
Give most of the proceeds to his charity maybe?

I think we can look forward to a Shelby dedicated episode next season for Top Gear. A legendary marque.
Last issue of TG mag ran a feature on Shelby, with what they said then was likely to be the last interview Shelby would make, tho they hoped it wouldn’t have been. Was a good article, in which he said he'd regretted leaving Ford when he did, as the cars put out under dodge were nothing but weak. although i wasnt aware he had quite a hand in the development of the 1st gen Viper. He went on to state he’d never collaborate with any other Manufacturer than Ford for as long as his company lived. He was also the longest survivor of a heart bypass at the time of print too. but I guess that sadly caught up with him.
R.I.P Carroll Shelby

A true gent and Texan, and thankyou for, in your own words, "kicking Ferrari's ass".
RIP
He's actually kicking Ferrari's ass right now. RIP
Of course Fangio, Clarke and Senna are having similar barnys as we speak.
Great man and a true loss to the car community. Legend.
The legend....the man. I had the privelige of meeting Carroll a couple years ago
in Arizona at the Barrett-Jackson auction. A buddy had purchased one of the 67 Shelby 350GT's that was up for sale and Carroll was kind enough to sign the glove box for him. My bud chatted him up for a couple minutes, I got tongue tied and didn't speak a word, I just stood there in amazement that I got to meet the one the only "Carroll Shelby". Carroll waved on one of his associates who produced a couple Cobra caps that Carroll proceeded to sign. He could see how smitten we were in meeting him and with a hand shake he was off to tend to the horde of fans that were assembling around him. He was a car guy's car guy. He'll never be forgotten at least not by this car guy. God's speed Carroll!!!!!!!!!!!!

A remarkable man, visionary, motivator, a born salesman but so charismatic. Obviously such a gifted racing driver, yep so many talents, and a fighter to shrug off those health issues. A very charitable man, too.
There is something very special about all that Shelby American and Ford Total Performance stuff in the early/mid sixties, the dedication of Shelby and his cohorts Miles, Gurney, Bondurant, Hill, Remington, Olsen and others.
Such wild looking cars, such wild sounding engines, as a youngster in those days I never got over it !
Still love firing up a Ford small block.
R.I.P. Mr Shelby.

Heard about this on Friday. Sad I never got to meet him. What a legend: raced for everyone from Aston-Martin to Maserati, won LeMans as a driver, helped develop the FIA championship-winning Daytona Coupes, helped develop the 4-time LeMans-winning GT40s, and developed two of my favorite cars, the Cobra and the Viper. The first time I saw (actually heard it long before I saw it) a Cobra was a pivotal moment in my development as a petrolhead.
