This has to be the ultimate bad boys toy - if you have any petrol in your veins you'd want a go at the very least hehe

I suspect your annual salary is somewhat less than that? If you had 10 mil in the bank, you might think differently.

....the new ESP system, which calls time so early you think it's broken. That's the bit that really kills me, same thing in every Merc I've driven.
But in the AMGs I've driven, you can actually turn them fully off unlike some marques.

Ice handling in a E63 AMG with no aids was good fun biggrin

£122,000 no thanks there are so many decent cars you can buy for that, too many to mention
I think you've missed the point by a very long way.

The person buying one of these new will already have several "decent" cars in their garage. This is just a bit of fun.

The reason this is so cool and an X6 M is NEVER cool is that this sort of makes no pretence that it's a brilliant road car. It's a bit st in some ways, and we Brits love things that are a bit st. Like that dancing fat bloke from Cyprus or the performing dog off Britain's Got Talent. Or old TVRs. A bit st but we love 'em. No BMW could ever loosen its tie enough to admit it's a bit st. All BMWs truly believe they're the best in their classes, and that kind of arrogance makes cars, as with people, fundamentally dislikeable.
Crunchy nutter, you have hit the nail on the head. The Merc people (or more specifically the AMG people) have a sense of the ridiculous that makes their products so much more likeable than those of current BMWs. Which is ironic, because the E39 M5 was a supremely likeable car despite various foibles, as were various other old BMs. E30 M3, M1, etc etc, come on down...

But the current crop of BMWs is just so up itself that buying one is like being mates with the guy who has all the toys but refers to himself in the third person... The ML63 is, in many objective ways, not better than a X5M. But it's fun, and a little bit silly, and gives a taste of the all-out certifiable lunacy of the G63. What's not to like?

Most of these wont be used directly by the owner. Go to Russia and you'll see plenty - sat behind a blacked out S65, with four shaven headed heavies, following the oligarch on the way to his mistress' flat.

I'm not sure you could actually fit any off-road wheels and tyres over those massive calipers but I know what you mean! smile
My bad! It has blingy wheels to accommodate the brakes, bit of a Topgear moment there!

Too bling, stick with the old G500.
When I go to the Balkans I see lots of G-class ( can you really say Gelanderclasse?, it is less resonant than Gelanderwagen.), I spoke to an owner next to a fishing lake in Bosnia who proudly showed off his thirty year old machine that looked brand new, they are that good.
The G makes MLs rightly look like poofy softroaders.
Made by Steyr , their Pinzgaur is a really serious 6 wheeled off-roader, though not as imposing as the pre-war Mercedes 6 wheeled G-wagen much favoured by 'you-know-who'.
As others note, the problem today is tyres. A friend with a Cayenne has low profile road tyres that can't even cope with grass , let alone a mountain track. When will the tyre companies bend the laws of physics and chemistry to give us the all-purpose tyre. A G-classe with 70 or 80 profile tyres has a nice ride on good tarmac .

between this AMG version and a Defender, there is no other 4x4 that human kind needs.

Would love to be able to have one in the garage for mad half hour every now and then!

The G65 AMG is the daily driver for Pagani owners. Similarly uncompromising, similarly AMG V12 powered, similarly beautifully finished.

Fantastic mate....what year/miles etc? you had it for long? I'd love a g55/63 but went g350cdi on miles and resale. After being rather won over by unquantifiable characteristics I could be very tempted smile
