Makes you realise a few things.

A: How sterile cars are now
B: How good Japanese cars were in the 60's/70's
C: How superior they were to British cars of the day

The noise reminds me of that German TR6 on youtube. I think straight sixes could sound better than Vee sixes or eights.

I got a good example for not silly money. I often wonder where people get their "facts" from when quoting such things. No offence intended, but you can buy a well cared for example for less money than you think, it wont be a concours car, but in my case i wanted a car to drive, not a garage queen to just look good.
What sort of money are we looking at then, never seen one for sale

I've emailed newera imports and the gtr shop trying to get an idea of prices. I can't find any for sale or if I can afford one, anyone have a idea of prices? I need something to replace my now sold mk1 escort, it doesnt have to be a gtr but a rep would be ok

Help guys
I'm very interested too. I want one of these so much, and actually a rep done up is more appealing then a real GTR racer (Think it's the KGC-10 as opposed to a KPGC-10 which is the GTR as far as I'm aware).

I'm thinking a bit more saving than first anticipated is in order.

Come on you that know, how much to import a replica with a kick ass engine?

I've seen decent usable examples go for the sort of price you'd expect of a well sorted MK1 Escort.

I agree, the datsun/nissan with a lumpy cam sound a little like a v at idle.

That TR6 video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHvAz0mcjqE

Listening again, I am wondering if this Skyline sounds better.

Straight 6 BMWs can sound quite nice too except for ones with farty exhausts and owner that blip their throttles needlessly in moving traffic in urban environments. frown

Pics pics pics pics pics pics pics pics pics pics pics please? biggrin
I'll take some this weekend & add them to my profile. It's looking a little tired & dirty at the moment.
Not the first time you've mentioned your Hakosuka, not the first time you've been asked for pics / more ( any! ) details, so quite likely to be not the first time you'll go all quiet again too. You must, shirley, have some pictures of it already? Even if no pics, why no information about the car ( model? specs? modifications? colour even? ) and/or a purchase story?

As far as I am aware, there are currently only four C10-series Skylines in UK: One silver GC10 ( four door GT ) near Newark, one silver KGC10 ( two door GT-X ) currently under full restoration / modification in the North East of England, one totally unroadworthy and decrepit silver KGC10 ( two door GT ) near Swindon, and one KPGC10 ( two door GT-R ) historic race car in North London. That's it. Four cars.

Your appointment with a tin of custard is creeping ever closer....

More like 22k GBP to 25k GBP for a decent KGC10 ( 2 door pillarless 'Hard Top' GT or GT-X models ) at today's exchange rates. Maybe 30k GBP for a really, really nice one. Most of them will have been modified to look superficially like a GT-R, but with the L-series SOHC straight six.

BIG money is for the proper S20 twin-cam engined PGC10 ( four door ) and KPGC10 ( 2 door hard top ) Skyline 2000 GT-R homologation special models. Genuine GT-R restoration projects - not many left unrestored - tend to start around 4.5 million JPY these days....

Ah, maybe a bit more attainable. I think you popped up on the dream car thread. Do you have the Blue 'proper' GTR? Love that. I'd want one that I could stick the kids in the back and go to the seaside too though - hence the rep

For people asking about pricing: They are available in Japan on a regular basis in their national auction system. I see maybe 1-2 per week come up depending on specific model and spec. They vary from 1,500,000 - 3,000,000 Yen. Try www.b-spex.com for access to the Japanese auctions and the ability to buy. I have dealt with these guys many times for buying JDM vehicles and they are top-notch suppliers. Check-out the website but be warned, you can spend many hours looking at the truly amazing cars on offer out of Japan! From Mercedes G-Class to Lister Jaguars. I just bought a W126 Mercedes S-class RHD, as new with 15,000 miles on it. Enjoy

Probably mine you are thinking of. Factory white with Nissan works race team-style blue panels and roundels, and works type 'overfenders' etc.

You could carry the kids to the seaside in a proper twin-cam PGC10, KPGC10 or KPGC110 'GT-R' as long as it was factory stock. They were road cars, after all. Came with rear seats you know...!

That's right, the blue headlights. Unfortunately my budget won't stretch to a real one anyway even with years of saving and driving a banger around I fear. But thanks

Try here

http://exchange.goo-net.com/ , choose Nissan, Skyline and age under 1990.

Original GT-R's usually go for north of US$90k + although you can get a KGC 2.8 conversion for considerably less.

Plenty of eye candy on here at the moment.

http://www.japaneseusedcar.ca/ucar/1971NissanSkyli... GBP$42,802.00 depending on exchange rates. I love the thing.

As for best engine noise. This car goes close but a 3.5 litre CSL on tripple webbers at 8500rpm takes the cake..... easily!

I think I still prefer the Skyline in the other vid though ( the one with the engine blipping to start )
