I've seen a few of these in Spain. Might be better posting in Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes section.

Basically Manta/Ascona underpinnings.

Quite simple Manta/Ascona running gear means they should be straightforward enough.

A cool car, a sort of mini Euro Corvette, I would be seriously tempted by one. Shame they were never imported to the UK.

Gorgeous cars. Ogled one in a local dealership recently. From what I can remember they're all left hand drive and not as quick or as sporty to drive as the looks might imply. I still would, though.

Very cool smile

While I like the idea of an original one, I can't help thinking that a 2.0 16v would give it some real performance.... hehe

I like them, and have tinkered with the idea (had a Manta back whenever), they do crop up for sale (even on PH) from time to time and a lot of them have decent engines in now!

Probably worth asking the owners club. They normally have a show at the Vauxhall/Opel Billing show and their website is below which maybe worth signing up on and asking away.

I had a lot of fun driving Opel GT cars the only problem was landing during a strong cross wind after having a few German beers , it is a very relaxing car to own ?

Opel GT number one ( "Stampeder" ) fitted with Chevrolet V8 327 cubic inch developing approx 325bhp and producing lots & lots of trophy's. Loads of fun & giggles all round !

I like them too as I had two Mantas back in the early 80s. I would imagine they would drive like a Manta (tail happy, long throw gear change, rubbish 70s era brakes) but would feel more responsive due to less weight.

This post hasn't helped a bit, has it?

IIRC George Greatholder used to drag one as well, same one or different?

I sold Opel GT " Stampeder " to an American serviceman stationed in Germany, who shipped it to the states and still has it today and races the car regularly in south eastern division drag races. I believe it is now fitted with a BB Mopar V8. and performes very successfully .

There is an immaculate silver one around the corner from me, I imagine I shall see it soon when the weather picks up again.
