I enjoyed the first Opel GT so much, we had so much fun I just yearned to get another one, but they are a little bit rare so I had to make do with a repair job, it was a bit of a struggle but i am now a better panel-beater . when my son & I went to buy the car they told us that we must be crazy ,that it was totally beyond recovery and was going in the crusher, It is amazing what 50 in the hand will do to get a deal done. A short while later I was on the way home with this Beast of an Opel.

A few weeks burning the midnight oil in the garage, head banging , welding and all those amazing things that petrol heads do to keep the sap rising and we ended up with this beautiful "Beast"

I was looking at a black one in WsM about 5 years ago (love the exterior), remember it not driving particularly nicely as the steering was particularly truck like, or does my memory deceive?

This was mine, ran it for a year or so about 10 yeras ago:

Basically, it'a a pretty simple straight forward classic. Parts are rare over here, but they sold 100,000 in the US so you can still get parts from there. Or bodge stuff: when the middle of the exhaust rusted out, a "proper" replaement was lots of dosh, so I bought standard parts and made the section up.

There's a massive rust trap up in the front wings: put your hand in behind the front wheels and you'll feel a square section at the back of the wing; this should have a flat solid top to it, below the inside top of the wing, if you see what I mean... but it's perfectly placed to collect mud and water off the wheel frown Leads straight into the cabin space when rusted out so obviously bad for carpets, floor etc.

Make sure the headlight system works (can be replaced by electrics, but more fun manual smile ).

The fuel filler cap is one of the nicest things you'll ever hold in your hand that's not attached to a lady wink

Another exciting Opel GT to keep promoting this excellent little car, one of my favourites, in the hope that GM might just introduce a new version in the future !

ive always liked these, sat in one at the NEC show, feels very sporty

does anyone know of UK based specialist? Id be looking to get one and upgrade it for fast road and track. 2 or 2.4 litre, lsd, and uprated suspension should do the trick

they are one of the nicest styled 60s cars that are affordable!

the conerero GT, but i prefer the green one on the trailer..
