Daft question alert, but would all fitted airbags go off in such a heavy impact or just the ones fired by the directional impact?
its more that there seems to be some talk (as yet unverified) that the local taxi company may have ordered its fleet of Sonata's with no airbags installed to save on cost ...

you would assume that at least one airbag would deploy in a shunt like that surely ?!

My wife's sister died when she was in a car that was t-boned. She was in a micra, the other car was a 4x4, speed was around 40mph (from what the police say. Could have been faster). From what was said the way she died was that her insides were rattled around so violently from the impact that she more or less died instantly. Even at that speed, I'm not sure airbags would have helped.

I know this stretch of road well having worked close to Bugis junction for a couple of years - there are a number of traffic light sets at short intervals due to a large number of junctions in the area - I myself have been confused on occasion by the volume of traffic lights, and I can believe that at high speed the driver could have easily mistaken red for green by looking at the wrong set. No excuse, mind.

Yep concussive force, it's often not the actual blow that kills you but the chain reaction\vibrations that it sets up in all the squishy bits in your body which actually does the most harm. Airbags will not save you from this. Getting shot creates a similiar reaction in your body so it's not often the bullet that actually kills you.

I was sitting in the front seat of one of these a few days ago, and did not see any "SRS Airbag" logo on the dash in front of me. Don't recall seeing one on the steering wheel either.

Quite possible, the previous set of lights are for a pedestrian crossing, and are less than 50 metres away.

At 100MPH + and a quick look at the speedo, those lights could have been easily missed then. Thats why they have speed limits.

Lol, thanks but you'll have to get in line as we've already had several people keen to point out the error of my ways.

Sometimes I get the feeling that rather then wanting to actually contribute to a thread, there are whole reams of forumites who absolutely live for moments like this, fingers poised on the submit trigger to catch the unwary. smile

Gotta love PH sometimes.
It's a form of willy waving, always wanting to be right and point out errors in a sort of one upmanship. Let them have their moment and just say sorry to them as they clearly revel in that accomplishment. I find it so funny that people have nothing better to do than pick faults in someone's post on an internet BB FFS!

Get a life you sad s.
