Covered by Construction and Use not MOT regs, so you could get pulled for it but it would pass an MOT. smile
False. Wheels pass the arches, it fails, simple as that. No ifs, no buts.

Utility I agree, although a UK spec Wrangler Unlimited has the same tow ratings.

I'll see your V8 Auto and raise you a BMW inline 6 manual! hehe

Although this isn't my actual Landy, save for the winch, chequerplating and snorkel it's identical!

I would never use a wrangler for towing unless it was a 4 door. They have gotten better over the years, but just arn't really engineered for it.

Not sure why the UK gives the wrangler a higher tow rating than the US TBH. The diesel may be a factor, but it's just too unstable with any significant weight behind it.

The Unlimited is a 4 door and has a 116" wheelbase (longer than a 110), so should be plenty stable.

In the US the HD tow pack gives you a Dana44 rear axle while all UK spec Wranglers have the D44 as standard, however I think it's more political than technical or engineering limited. In the US the Unlimited is rated at 3500lbs while UK/Euro models are rated at 3500kg using the same drivetrain.

It would appear all Jeep (Chrysler) do is swap lbs for KG, meaning the vehicle is fully capable and engineered as such. For instance the JK Wrangler has far superior axles and gearboxes vs a Defender and it also uses a much stronger hydroformed chassis.

But in the US if you want to tow the expectation is you'd buy a Ram (or similar). So partly there is no need for a Wrangler to have good tow ratings in the US and secondly they wouldn't want them taking market share away from their bigger trucks. In Europe and the UK this isn't the case.

I'm pretty sure that it's if the tyre tread pass the arches it fails.

I searched for this a while ago and it's just not that clear.

The consensus opinion appears to be that the tread of the tyre must be within the arch at the top of the tyre - e.g. when viewed from directly above, you cannot see tyre tread.

Sidewalls/rims are allowed outside the arch - the idea is that spray (generated by the tread) is contained - the law isn't about anything sticking-out for any other reason (although there are separate regs in cars not having anything likely to cause injury or collide with roadside objects such as dodgy bodywork).

Nice idea, and good luck to them but my hard-earned would be plonked on the counter at JEE if I wanted something in my garage for post-apocolyptic Park Lane dealership raids and/or LAYER CAKE re-enactments.

Prefer the look and price of the TWISTED LR Defenders.

Either way, anything with those seats, an amp and two subs cannot possibly be compared to a G-Wagon. Ever.

Take your £52k and buy a pre-owned G. That's the PHers way of settling arguments remember!

Cool truck but unfortunately the price and the engine it dosnet make sens.
for about £32k JE will put a 4.2 460-80 bhp v8 and 6 speed manual in one for you, so if you get a base 90 at 22 then add 32 we got o £52, know i would rather a V8 than the tdci any day!!

also if it could look as standard utility as possible can you image peoples faces as they get blown away by a standard looking 90 wink!!

Well, the new MOT rules here in N. Ireland, which I can only assume are the same as the new ones in the rest of the UK, prohibit anything exceeding the arches. My ex-housemate's BMW failed because the horrid wheels he runs have spokes like bananas that stick our past the arches. He retested with the OE steelies.
