I think one hurdle with the RS6 will be fuel consumption. It might be available for lemonade money, but I suspect it does single-figure MPG around town and will struggle to stay in the 20s on the motorway. ISTR my old V8 RS6 did about 11mpg in town and 22-23 on the motorway. (Town, incidentally, = central London, so really it's more of a car park than a road system).
Since when was £33,000 'lemonade money'? Thats more than my first house cost, in 1995. Thats proper money.

But today it buys a parking space in London..... rolleyes

Everything is relative. The real issue with the Audi is that it will halve in value in far less time than your house took to double.

Sure it is a lovely car but it just seems a bit of a pointless exercise, just how fast do you want to go in a family estate, I would go with a 3.0 TDi A6 and spend the rest on something else for weekends.

I don't know if it was a mis-print, but the Subaru SVX Shed of The Week a while back said early versions were good for 182mph: http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=162&i=198...

Not bad for a grand.

£35K

One here at an Audi dealer. Word is they are discounting to shift these as they currently lose £500 min a month in the book. Get a second years Audi warranty thrown in and a large discount - job done.
A stunning car, I'll not deny, which as an Audiphile I love. But £500/month eek

Let's say you get a £5k discount (highly unlikely). It will only take 10months before you're losing £500/month on depreciation alone. In addition to its high running costs, you have to really want one when comparing it to other cars!

With 230 hp and a slushbox? No chance in h*ll. I remember the top speed of that car being quoted as 230 km/h - 142mph or so?

It is cheap (relative to new) as people dont really want them, well they do but generally they arent daft enough to buy them, the diesels are usually fast enough and hold (relatively) their value as they are easy to move on, 15k gets a nice 3.0 Tdi LeMans, then spend 20K on something fast and interesting, there is all manner of stuff that will retain value far better than the top 20k of a 35k Petrol Audi, it would be easy to buy this and lose a very nice Caterhams worth of value in 3 years.

I like this alot. It has very understated styling (everything is relative!). I would de-badge and go round biffing up heroes in A4s at the traffic lights - with the optional extra labrador peering out of with a pained look on it's face mashed against the back window at them.
Corrected that for you... wink

Why not just buy a Noble M12? Mid enginged super car for less money!

Ninja packing skills have so far rendered the XKR practical for a two-week family camping trip, but three-up with luggage in an M12 might be pushing it a tadge, lovely though they are...
Some sort of roof rack might be in order biggrin

V10 M5's have crept below £15k now!

How funny that when they first came out a badly badly wanted one but assumed they were too good to ever come down to affordable levels like the e39.
Now they have, I haven't the slightest interest in tehm. What's that all about?

That Audi does make a lovely alternative to mid-week commuting. I could drive the RS6 weekdays and use the GTR on Fridays - thanks for sharing, what a great idea!

Audi + winter tyres = simples.

My 06 S65 W221 cost £43k with 16,000 mls on it 1 owner out of the box with 612 bhp. It now has 670 BHP and 1,100nm for around a grand spent at DMS. It also sounds amazing, rides like the limo it is, and the interior is just a delight as you'd expect for £180,000 motor. 22 mpg on the motorway and 18 everywhere else. Barge-tastic! Totally in love with the thing. I'm 10,000 mls in after six months and know it won't be sold anytime soon as what on earth could replace it. 100k mls here I come.

There's some videos on Youtube that say otherwise - found one that gave a GPS indicated 354kph (near 220mph as makes no odds) on a claimed 830bhp. What with diminishing returns, 703bhp (which I've now found the same kit for £2200) should be good for near enough the double ton.

Yes of course a car making that sort of power is never going to be particularly frugal or cheap to run, but give it another year to 18 months, and you may find yourself in the possession of a five year old car, still most likely with around 60k on the odo, and nearly as much power as a contemporary F1 car for about 30k.

This heartens my soul.

100% with you on this. I think it's a combination of the hoardes of M-sported 520s and those damn Dame Edna headlights that have soured it for me. Oh, and the Touring is even more hideous.
