Also, the 320i efficient dynamics looks great. No more need to resort to diesel when doing high miles!

Still miss the 6 cyl engines, but 53mpg is incredible.

I dont do the mileage and hence its easy to justify the 330i that I have. Careful driving and keep it below 80MPH and it will return 35MPG on a run with ease. Drive slower and its into 40+MPG!

Which for 268BHP auto 6 cylinder engine is bloody great!

Don't ask anyone at PH....they're not interested. The hand that feeds them.........

Why not go for the 335i? Unless you do lots of miles?

Quick moan - Are BMW sponsoring Piston heads as they seem to be the only manufacturer poppin up 2 or 3 times a week with news?
Exactly, and how is this in any way news? Would Kia get a headline story because they just introduced a new seat trim?
I appreciate that BMW make some cars that enthuiasts may enjoy but I don't see how a "contrast hard top" for the Z4 and a poverty spec 320i warrants a article on PH - I doubt other manufacturers would receive the same courtesy...

so the regular 1.6 1 series has a 1995cc engine but the 1.6 ED has a 1598cc engine. BMW are odd.

With an X-Drive 3 series, there really will be no point in buying an X3!

No doubt someone will mention 'elevated driving position'..... We all know this is code for 'I want to pretend I go offroad' wink
I can't do this in a 3 series, not even a 4wd one....

There was mention of the twin turbo 2.0d being put in the X3 - does anyone have a link as I can't find it on the BMW UK website.

"Some are more dismissible than others. A new 520d variant for the 5 Series GT doesn't make it any less sinfully ugly. A 102hp 114i doesn't stand a chance of rousing interest compared to the three times more powerful M135i. Euro 6-compliant X3? Worthy but dull."

Any money the 114i outsells the M135 by a large margin on the continent.

I have often thought it needed a contrasting hard top. Z4 roof down is a good looking car, roof up doesn't quite look right.

As someone who scoffed at such cars (X3) and then bought a new X5 back in 2008, all i can say is they make fantastic on road proposition and I would have another in a heart beat. The elevated driving position and all round space the car gave me was fantastic. As an everyday car for tooling round town the x5 was unbeatable smile

I find the people who scoff most at such cars are the ones who will never have the option to own such cars or their competition, be that an x drive 3, 5 or 7. If you don't believe me try one yourself. You may just surprise yourself!

"Tooling around town in an X5 = unbeatable". So much wrong with that statement I wont even begin.

I sometimes 'scoff' at such cars (as you put it) but not because of some weird deep seated Jealousy (it may come as a surprise that many people are not jealous of an x5 wink ). Instead i have come to a reasoned decision by driving an X5 and a comparable 5 series, and decided by myself that an X5 offers nothing extra above a 5 series Touring, other then;

- 4 wheel drive
- A higher Driving position

In many other ways it is inferior. Of course, If you are heading off-road (like the chap in the X3 above) then I can understand the obvious advantages!
