Bit of a haggle needed or there's always the older B10. Estates of both cars exist but are rare.

Thanks! I keep telling people about cars but no ones listens. There not alot I don't know about performance motors biggrin

I also know the pitfalls of all RS ownership having had a couple.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi...IT'S A HEMI!
OK, OK, not a 'real' original 426 Hemi, but it's still a car where the engine actually has a name

In fairness if you want noise outside the car then you'd have to put some louder pipes on as they're pretty quiet as standard. Astonishingly quick off the line with 4wd.

Has to be the SRT-8 though, will hold it's value better. So it's more sensible yes

For a V8 with sensible running costs I know which side of the Atlantic I'd be shopping. That'll be a 300C with the big engine.

Don't think the Alpina wheels really suit this car IMO. Of course, you'd have to keep them, they're Alpina wheels, but to me they don't quite look right. Love that grey leather and wood interior though. Lovely! Not usually a fan of either, but looks great in that car.

I had a long test drive in a tuned 508hp V8 RS6. I was fantastic. Sounded amazing, very plush and luxurious inside, a lovely car. Get a cherised enthusiast owned car that's been maintained well and had all the right bits changed, and you're onto a winner!

end thread.

Perfect. I love the wheels sooo much!

I doubt that's the S IIRC 535hp and similar torque. The original B5 was as fast as the E60 M5, don't look it though which is why i love it.

Early Monaros and the VXR8 have a big boot, not sure what sort of load space you need (wardrobes or just a couple of bodies?)

Sound great (especially with exhaust), cheaper to service than an Audi / BMW / Merc, especially once they draw an AMG / Alpina / RS logo on the invoice...

From personal experience, these tend not to go so well together. Sure, routine maintenance is cheap, but fuel (I'm talking SRT-8 now and am assuming you are too) and tyres are consumed quite alarmingly.

The trade-off is worth it though, because these cars can be had for buttons (relatively) and they possess quite formidable performance.

There's a (very expensive) B10 V8S Touring just come up for sale on the Alpina Register site. That would be just great - but it is very pricey.
Otherwise plenty of B10 V8 saloons and the occasional touring. Or a 540i at the other end of the money spectrum - £3K for a nice one?

My favourite so far - thanks to all the other ideas, so nice saloons about but I really need an estate.

The Alpinas are very appealing for something a bit different in the BMW guise and the B10s are rare... and pricey!

But this is strange...

Looking at the seller:
http://www.wyleshardy.com/details_single.asp?pge=2...

Not the typical car sale - "Private Treaty Sale on Behalf of a Retained Client."

I have a 2004 E55 AMG, which I keep threatening to sell, because I have run out of space, and need a Ferrari 612 (but thats another story).

However, I just can't bring myself to sell it. The noise it makes is just superb - at full chat it sounds like a WW2 fighter plane. I get about 20mpg (and I drive like I have sat on a wasp) on a longish run, the boot is cavernous, it's amazingly comfortable, and it's alarmingly quick.

It's totally anonymous too - no-one knows what it is unless they spot the AMG touches (grill material, wheels) or the 4 exhausts, but when it lets rip it sounds like its tearing space in two.

An extraordinary car, and totally without equal, size, space and performance considered*

(*I honestly believe it's better than an M5).

If you don't buy one, you'll never know how good they are. Plus, they are as cheap as chips.

I would be tempted by a 550i touring, cracking 4.8 V8 very nice drive & relatively spacious, but they are rare & if you could get hold of a manual box then it would tick many boxes for me.

V8`s are just cloud9
