OK, I have to do it and get a V8 out of my system. I don't do many miles a year at the moment (<8k) so MPG is not an issue. I have enough buffer funds for most repairs and insurance is not an issue (39, low crime area, full no claims, etc) Twist is, it should also be practical... Second twist is, outright performance isn't that key - I just want the sound, though a turn of speed would help - but I'm not obsessed by a difference of .5 of a second to 60. Criteria: - V8
- Good load space - so preferably an estate (!)
- A good sound from the engine without silly mods, but would consider a Milltek or similar as an addition
- <15k
Long list so far: Audi S4 Avant Audi A6 4.2 Avant (plus a decent exhaust) BMW 550i Chrysler 300c Hemi Merc E55AMG Bigger... Range Rover Porsche Cayenne Any I have missed? (edit to add, I know about the spelling error in the title)

RS4 with full Milltek....yummy and still practical! If you can stretch why not RS6 lol! V10 glory! Failing that an E90 M5 with Hayward and Scott exhaust fits the bill!
edit : Whoops....sorry didn't see the < £15k :P
I would go for the Merc in that case...Merc V8s sounds beefy. Would avoid Cayenne and Rangey unless you fancy big bills :P

A little biased, but I no longer have it. The E55AMG is awesome! Bucket loads of power, but can be driven sedately. Adjustable suspension makes the ride as compliant or stiff as you like. Q car'ish unless someone notices the 4 exhausts. All the best in one package. If you go for any of the others you may be left thinking 'if only'

MG ZTT 260 is worth considering, full of character and as much noise as you fancy depending on exhausts. And your budget would buy the best (with change for a supercharger...)

Any modern car will need an aftermarket exhaust to make it sing though, so budget this for any. Although such exhaust are less accepted on some types of cars. If you need load space then how about 5.4 litres of Supercharged V8 grunt http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3889494.htm

A friend had one for a short while. Turns out the steering wheel is just for show and isn't connected to anything.

RS6 had a V8 at one point. Bet they're cheap now. Cerbera's have back seats

RS6 but expect bucket loads of problems and repairs bills unless you buy one with DRC replacement Bilsteins on and with a recent service and healthcheck on the gearbox.
X5 with the V8 is a good choice too, 4.4 V8 sound to die for.
Jag S-type R is also a great suggestion too.

This man speaks sense! Get a healthcheck and make sure DRC has been changed. Otherwise go for it. I drove one, loved it!

Would you get a C55 AMG Estate within your budget? That or an RS4 Avanat as already suggested would be my choices. If not, how about a 540i Touring?

Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi...IT'S A HEMI! OK, OK, not a 'real' original 426 Hemi, but it's still a car where the engine actually has a name
In fairness if you want noise outside the car then you'd have to put some louder pipes on as they're pretty quiet as standard. Astonishingly quick off the line with 4wd.
