Even if you were financing the spread it is almost certainly going to be cheaper to own the Porsche
Not in terms of depreciation it isn't, nothing has depreciated as slowly as the GT-R (although that may will change as a result of the price rises).

How is it that Mr. Harris is driving around on a track day with a tee shirt on - surely he was told by the officials at Brands to cover his arms and as a serious driver should know better himself!!
Because it's a closed-cockpit car.

I'd like to meet a GT-R owner, the Nissan just leaves me utterly cold and I'd like to hear the appeal beyond the empirical. I just don't get it!
You don't need to meet a GT-R owner.
Just google any article about them from any journalist and read it and they will all explain why your preconceptions are false!
...or just drive one and form your own opinion.
I see articles as more entertainment than useful review of a car, and I'm not going to drive a car I can't afford, it would lead to problems!
So if you haven't driven one, don't know an owner of one and don't pay attention to the opinions of car journo's what exactly is your "utterly cold" opinions based on.

The way it looks?

Slightly ironic turn of phrase there, given it's heavier than the 911

and there's this...

Weight then...
The picture also backs up its Godzilla name. It would eat the NSX in more ways than one. Nothing against the NSX though. smile

As always Chris produces a great vid IMHO. Can't get enough of his stuff ; )

Loving both cars but I must say I don't think I'd spend the extra for the 'Track Pack'. I have a 59 plated R35 and £10k's worth of mods would make it a monster. Keep in mind that a Stage 4 upgrade at somewhere like Litchfields produces 620bhp for a lot less. Then you'd still have spare cash for handling mods.

Anyway, Chris mate, I for one am not bored of your 'BIG SKID' vids, please keep them coming.

I test drove a 997 Turbo, 997 GT3 and a GT2 before buying my GT-R. Horses for courses, but 10 minutes into the test drive I knew - to quote the above - I had to have it in my life. It musters *passion* like no other car I've ever owned (TVRs, M5s, 22b etc).

All those who declare it to be lifeless etc - Listen to Chris in the video. Which feels the more lively, the more involving drive? I've posted before about the GT-R knockers on PH - 99% of which have never been in one, or seen one in the flesh - much less driven one.

As for the Track Pack - Pure marketing muppetry. Go to the PH Classifieds. Buy a 09/10 model for circa 40k with a few k miles on the clock. Proceed to Litchfield and take the car to their stage 1. (£1095). Upgrade the gearbox software to the 2012 version (£300). Warranty the car and above upgrades (£1000). Et voila. Virtually identical spec as the 2012 model for £41,395 and won't depreciate much at all in the foreseeable future.

So the microphone was broken? They both sound incredibly dull. I will never own one of either but the lack of spine tingling aural hurrahs leaves me feeling very sad inside

Appauling seats in the gtr, just terrible

Fast gearboxes which do their best to irradicate any sense of fun

Superduper fast and capable cars, yes, and yet both give me sleepy eyes

Sorry, I'm in the cold section to, never driven one either, i even think it looks great in the flesh(!), but the ferrari ff and turbo s are in the same category for me. i think it has more to do with the fact that right now their real party trick is being the best thing you can buy for the money and next year it won't be, i don't know, seems kind of daft chasing after that. that and the mid life crisis abuse i'd get from the mrs if i actually ever bought one...

Another cracking video that answers questions my pockets are simply not deep enough to in the real world! Thank you, highly entertaining.

I seem to remember a similar test Tiff v Plato in a standard GTR v 997T (rather than S) at Castle Coombe I think - the 911 looked a much bigger handful and the GTR far more stable. Similar result with the lap times too as far as I can remember.

Which would I choose - discounting money the 911 no question, 959 posters as a kid seal that. I might one day own a GTR and a standard one would do me fine. I recently decided against a GTR though, possibly too fast for the road and a little pricey for track work. A slightly less potent road car and a track toy seem a better balance to me in this price range.

Good to see at lot of none biasedness to the GTR and a good balance of for and against comments!

But I am a GTR Fanatic, aand will never be a Porsche fan. They look poor, the GT3 looks stupid with that rear wing but they do sound good. Better than the GTR? Not sure but they do sound good!

Chris saying about putting 10K mods in being faster? Mods will never out perform a factory designed GTR!

Straights yes.

Track times no...

I do see a problem with 10K for the track pack. The rims no more than say 2-3K for those maybe another 1K for the new grippy stuff, 2K for the suspension tweaks and stuff... But where are the better brakes and tires?

http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/nissan_gtr_brak...

This is what is going to happen to them... THEY SUCK!

They either need CC brakes, or these babies AS AN OPTION...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ar8jibQoAi0

Hopfully they will get some good results from the Nurburgring 24H GTR and will adapt it for this type of GTR in the future!

Judging by this post, I'm going to bet that you're ~14 years old.

How on earth is that a party trick? It's proven to be faster than the Porsche Turbo and that costs how much more? The FF would likely get a pasting as well. I can understand the badge, I would rather have a Ferrari if I had Ferrari money but simply this is far more than a one trick Pony, it is a milestone in super car history.

rofl

Possibly the funniest thing I've ever read on PH.

Best thing you can buy for the money = Party Trick

Perhaps if Nissan were to strive for mediocrity instead you'd 'warm' to it?

Madness....

for the record, i'd have neither. i'd take a carrera S over both of them. they both (the turbo and turbo S in particular) sound really, really dull. and it's not as if the C2S is slow.
But you wouldn’t if you felt the performance of the Turbo! In terms of performance it's in a different league to the S.

When I was a kid I remember watching Star Wars and thinking the Millennium Falcon was the fastest thing in the galaxy. Then when I was a little older I had a ride in a 997 Turbo, which is when I discovered just how wrong I was...

hmmmm. i know how quick they are, but if you wanted something that's just quick, you wouldn't go for the turbo as you can get better for the money; it's a whole package. it's a tough one, maybe a nice exhaust would make it sound a bit better...?

and the nissan isn't incredible? it's what around £40k+ cheaper and how much slower? wink
Buying new under warranty the GTR still looks a bargain against a TurboS.....however a used TurboS just about to go out of warranty is a much better buy.
A GTR out of warranty scares the sheet out of most people.
