I'd like to meet a GT-R owner, the Nissan just leaves me utterly cold and I'd like to hear the appeal beyond the empirical. I just don't get it!
What's not to get?
It's the quickest car you can buy for the money. It's handling is incredible, the gearbox is incredible - the car just doesn't have any rivals IMO. How can a car you have never driven (I am assuming based on your comment) leave you cold?
I have owned a couple of Ferrari's, M3's and Porchses - the Nissan is the best car I have ever owned and I have had it 3 years now
Chris Harris even said those that think the GTR is too clinical just haven't driven one properly.

hmmmm. i know how quick they are, but if you wanted something that's just quick, you wouldn't go for the turbo as you can get better for the money; it's a whole package. it's a tough one, maybe a nice exhaust would make it sound a bit better...?
I'm going to be a massive hypocrite and say as a Porsche fan I would much rather one of these: www.pistonheads.com/sales/3262392.htmTrack pack seems quite odd. Gets rid of the rear seats (a strong selling point to me of the GT-R) but doesn't give you a roll-cage, harness, proper bucket seats. Waste of time.
No doubt that the GT-R is a mightily impressive piece of kit. But I'd still take a GT3 if I wanted a track car (or something lighter like a Caterham).

Every time there is a thread concerning the GTR,and you get all the knockers coming out out of the woodwork saying it does nothing for me and is dull to drive, blah blah blah, isn't it funny that ALL of these people have never even driven a GTR let alone owned one????
Then all the people who own or have owned one will rightly tell you what an amazing car it is and for the money is absolutely in a class of one??
Strange that...

So if you haven't driven one, don't know an owner of one and don't pay attention to the opinions of car journo's what exactly is your "utterly cold" opinions based on.
The way it looks?
Or the badge? The way it looks?

Not fussed about the badge, and for me the only problem with the way it looks is the sheer size of the thing. I think the fact that people just quote numbers at you when you ask why it's so good doesn't help.
Who has quoted numbers on this thread? Owners have praised it, owners who had apparently owned w wealth of gtr competitors. Then there those who have not owned one who just spout the usual tripe. It's pathetic.

There's is ALWAYS a stepping stone and rivalry between cars and the GTR always HAS rubbed the back of the Porsche fans up. If this video was of the GTR and BMW M3 it would still bring the Porsche fans out the woodwork.
As people have said, people criticising for being too clinical haven't driven it.
The difference is that I'd imagine more of the enthusiasts would buy GTRs whereas with the Porsche you get a mixture of enthusiasts and MDs that know F All about cars just buy the Porsche like an Armani suit as a bit of bling.
As much as a GTR is clinical, Porsche as a brand are boring.
I also know that when I see a GTR in the flesh it's rare and you really look twice.
I see that many Porsches (it doesn't matter what variant) i don't even flinch.
It's all subjective
I have owned a noble for 3 years in the past, then moved to a 911 turbo and now the gtr. All I can say is that it's fantastic. Can't see how people say they are boring to drive. It's so physical and the rear always wants to play!! Best car I have ever owned and one I won't be getting rid of ever ; ) obviously it's a very subjective matter but as u can see I had the noble for 3 years and no one could call that boring lol. So for me to say the gtr is even more exciting is high praise in my book!!

Buying new under warranty the GTR still looks a bargain against a TurboS.....however a used TurboS just about to go out of warranty is a much better buy.
A GTR out of warranty scares the sheet out of most people.
The general running costs scares the sheet out of me on both cars, I think they are both out of my price range at the moment anywho so ill stick to my boring hatchbacks for now A GTR out of warranty scares the sheet out of most people.

In a funny way being a bit old school i recall seeing a picture of a r32, r33, r44 and r35, front end on and it does strike you how each year, each model was just that bit bigger with ultimately the 35 being much bigger than a 32! However, that is just the modern market, how much bigger would a modern mini now look to its original. I would bet its the same with 911's!However, i dont get the numbers comment, i would say all supercars are judged by their respective "numbers". Sure looks comes into it but looks are respective to your own opinion. Like a chap says above, when i see a 911 of whatever variant i have utterly no emotion, i see something of a similar shape to what i have been seeing for 30 years, infact i do have an emotion, boredom!
The GTR is new and fresh and you cannot argue numbers, hence why they are quoted, looks are opinion based! I am not sure anyone has said they are not good to drive, more often then not, highly praised, which it seems you dont want to hear either! So what do you want to hear from GTR owners?

so you'd rather have a ferrari than a gtr, if you could afford one, yet people who are left cold by the gtr are talking tripe. i've tried to explain why the brilliant gtr just doesn't pique my interest, in the same way that the turbo s doesn't, which i have driven and it's got nothing to do with performance, just desire. how many people here can even do a sub minute wet lap of brands indy?if wanting an f40 ahead of an ff, a 964rs ahead of a 997gt3, a 993gt2 ahead of a 997gt2 or an nsxr ahead of a gtr is pathetic then i can live with that. amusing that other people's subjective opinions on the other side of the world upset some people

It leaves you cold.... A 550hp super car leaves you cold..... There is no need to debate this. Edited by fbrs on Friday 18th May 15:46
