Title says it all really. Planning on pulling my heater matrix off tomorrow and blowing it through with a karcher as my heater isnt hot enough for my liking when on. Just wondered if you guys would back flush the pipes leading to the colling system incase thy are sludged up as well?
If you should do it. Any advice on what to look out for or any potential headaches. Thanks in advance.

Would it not be easier to just flush the cooling system with the matrix left in place? just take a coolant hose off, stick a garden hose in the coolant header tank and flush until the water is clear coming back out of the pipe you disconnected.
If your heater is not blowing well, check the cabin filter and change it if it hasn't been done in a while.

Ive dine that before. Infact i do it at every service, but if you have a blackage in the heater matrix and its scaled up it wont work. Ive found before you need to smash it up with a decent pressure washer.

I always use deionized water when I'm doing the coolant, never get any scaling problems.tap water makes some mess over the years

Gotta take the front bumper off to disconnect lower hose from the rad. Also have to srrip the dash out to get to the matrix. Ans you just know your gonna cock it up somehow. Would be happy to get a new matrix, but im too tight to spend 90 quid if the pipes are messed up anyway, will try the dionised water trick from now om.

The last thing you should do is use a pressure washer.
Backflush the heater using a hosepipe and nothing more powerful.
Use a product like Radflush to descale the cooling system.
Carefully flush out all the contaminants from the cooling system and neutralise the cooling system.
Refill using the correct coolant and distilled water.

Pressure washer won't be any better than a hose.
Unless a blockage is in the entrance as soon as it turns a corner the pressure washer is ineffective.

Nothing to discuss is there? Previous posters have already said sticking a pressure washer into your heater matrix is not going to do it any good. Which is kind of obvious, isn't it? Add that to the fact that on most cars removing one is a complete pita, and not something you would want to do more than once, I would suggest replacing it if indeed there's anything wrong with it.

Why buy a new one before you try and unblock the old one? youve got to take it off anyway so may as well descale it properly then leak test it. if it does happen to leak bin it or get a can of tyreweld.
