Funnily enough, I was looking at a couple of these on eBay just a few weeks back, although inmho the XT is way cooler.

Says the man with what appears to be no discernible taste in cars.

I for one absolutely love these things.

I owned one of these brilliant cars a year or so ago, you can do a 200 mile journey in one and get out the other end like you had popped to the shops. When we had that very sudden freezing rain/snow downpour a few years back I was using the car to travel to a contract I had in Worthing form Horndean. When every car and I mean every car either due to lack of ability in four wheel drives or just your standard two wheel drive car had stopped and were not ever going to move my SVX just cruised along unflustered past everything and I can assure you I was the only vehicle moving. So if you wish to pass judgement on a vehicle you have never owned then fair enough the looks are a bit Marmite but it is without any doubt the most accomplished car I have ever owned and if you check my profile you can see the sort of cars I have owned and I rate the SVX at very near the top.

One of the best opening comments for some time.
Dont stop there (He who sounds like a Bland Eurobox fan)why not just jump in the chilli powder for 100% immersion and finish the job off ?
When you climb back out - hot to the core - you too will then be exactly like this uber-cool timeless Sexy Subaru !
Ok so I'm biased as hell ! having wanted one for yonks - I finally bought one about a month back, the looks and the drive are fantastic, people stop, stare and smile - some ask what it is, and I enjoy every mile I drive it. SVX's are rare, very comfortable and suprisingly economical.(what other car can claim this in the way one of these can?)
Have to say that the silver grey one here does not look the best in that colour, mine is in "2012 back in vouge" Pearl White with a gloss Black roof - Subaru just knew that the colour would come back into fashion again 20 years later ! To my eye my car with its new alloys could for looks be only a few years young !!
Here is mine - hope you like it !
Each to their own eh? Mr Chilli Fetish Powder !

Be sure that it is seeping from the rocker covers, iirc the steering rack could have problems and the ps fluid bubbled over onto the exhaust and looked like the rocker cover was leaking.
Yes the Subaru impreza Turbo 2000 I do spots of work on had what looked like oil from the rocker cover, turned out to be an 'O' ring in the power steering fluid resivior, (I assume its a resivior, point is its situated above the belts and rocker cover on the Impreza). Easy fix and the 'O' rings fail so replaced with a new one with larger surface area.

Its strange how Subarus seem to make people smile and want to ask about the cars, always get people coming over to me when im doing stuff on the 2000 turbo on the driveway.

Good on you! If it wasn't for guys like you taking a risk in the early 90's this SOTW would be impossible. Seem to remember that after all the auto trans problems some people stuck Tremec 5-speed manuals in them (or something similar). Seem to remember reading a thread a long time ago. That would be fun! Oops - Skoob STi boxes of course -- I'll keep taking the stoopid pills!

Easily the best one of these I've ever seen. Love it..!! thumbup

And to think, only about 15 years ago I argued blind with a guy at work that what he'd seen on his morning commute couldn't have been a Subaru SVX because no such thing existed - and I was a Subaru fan too..!!

People are so quick to press their opinions on this forum. I merely stated my opinion, I didn't then abuse anyone who disagreed.

And unfortunately my car history thus far has been governed by insurance costs, a student budget and a necessity to travel negating any hope I had of running that 74 Midget I always wanted as a daily.

Since this thread is attracting SVX owners, can the mods humour me with a small transgression?

I have a pair of suspension ball joints which have been in the cupboard for years. Brand new, in the packets. I think front ones. I sold my svx for a 964C4 before getting around to fitting them.

I think they were around £80 each from KT Green.

Any owner want to make me an offer?

As a touring car the svx was superb. controlled 4 wheel drifts in terrible weather, grip in ice and snow, etc. I once towed a laden transit with had sunk nearly to its axles out of a muddy field. The girl who had got stuck knocked at my door and was delighted when I said 'oh I've a 4x4 I'll pull you out' The look on her face when I drove the svx into the field was unforgettable.

If it had been manual then I'd have kept it. But there wasn't much info on the manual gearbox swap back then.

I remember that LJK Setright rated the SVX as the most comfortable car he'd driven - praise indeed from a superb motoring journalist.

Not sure why there i so much dislike for this car.

I for one think it is an overlooked design classic. In years to come there will be very few of these left and the few decent ones left will be worth a few quid.

I am not crazy about jap cars, but there are few on my car list that If i had the time, money and space they would be in my garage...

Honda NSX
Nissan Skyline 33 GTR
Mazda RX7
Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo Carloz Sainz edition
Nissan 300 ZX Twin turbo
Toyata Supra Twin Turbo
Mitsubishi 300 GTO Twin turbo
Nissan 200 SX turbo
and.... a Subaru SVX

None of the above are expensive to buy (apart from the NSX)

Ooh I love these things. I think they look great and the fact that there are so few about just add to the appeal. Now if only I didn't already have one money pit on the go I'd love to get this, tidy it up and enjoy the thing.
