Agreed, how is the Fezzer getting on, hope you still have it and are enjoying it??
OP here :-) .. been ages since I checked on this thread as I had assumed it was "old" news. But since you asked :-) In fact the 456 has been put away for the rubbish weather from Dec to now, but has just been dusted down and flown through its MOT with no advisories. I did have a good look over it when it was on the ramps and all looks good underneath but there was a slight weeping from rad so am going to get that recored ready for the summer. Over the winter I managed to pick up a couple of rear silencer boxes for a snip (£75 !) on ebay so am going to experiment with these to see if I can't release some of the V12 howl with some subtle "adjustments" to the innards as £2k for a tubi would definitely break the bank. The wheels have just come back from a refurb and will be fitted with Pirellis all round to get rid of those front Primewells, and sadly I had puncture in one of the rear kumhos (and discovered.. no spare wheel, and no space for one either !) so these will be replaced too. Apart from that its having a light service with oil change, and I am also having an override fitted to the cooling fans as during the few warm days we had last I noticed that the fans would struggle in stationary traffic, and so by having an override switch I can switch them on to try and keep temps down before it starts to rise(used this to good effect on my Griff 500). Have decided not to touch the bodywork for now, will look to save up for this next winter. As per someone's recent question the mileage was 58k when I bought it... Just booked up for Le Mans and seems rude not to plan to take it :-) Roll on the summer ..

OP - im glad its not been ruinous for you so far.
Looking at your car history you have bought a variety of interesting cars and they all look quite high maintenance to me but I think you are smarter than some are giving you credit for.
Although there is potential for the 456 to go ezpensively wrong you seem the sort who will do preventative mwork yourself or through cheaper garages and prioritise the work that needs to be done.
Good luck. I think you will be fine. I think you know what you are doing.

Tops.

At the price you paid I had (wrongly) assumed it had much more miles on it than that. Top purchase; keep us posted!

58K is moon miles on a 456 isn't it? Ferraris of that era were expected to be 1.5-2K a year cars - hence all this "if you use it it loses value" stuff.

Fantastic to hear that all's well and that the car is actually being used as intended. Gives the rest of us a nudge to take some brave pills.
Thanks OP for the update.

Yes, for some reason I thought the mileage was c. 158k not 58k!

An absolute bargain and I am delighted to hear that the car is not a money pit. Kudos to the new owner for taking the risk and I hope the car gives you many years of happiness!

Well dear thread followers I am pleased to announce that the 456 made it to Le Mans 24hours and back with no issues at all....

Well ok, one problemette.... I was getting a wet foot on left hand bends ?? confused Looks like the aircon drain is blocked so after 4 hours of aircon running, the water is collecting somewhere under the dash and spilling over on left handers. So no aircon for me until I can get to the pipework under the dash. Oh and the CD changer decided to go into reset mode the day before I left so only French radio and V12 music to keep us happy. When scouring the web for door seals I found a tip to help reduce wind noise from the gappy side window, that was to insert some hard rubber tube into the door seal edge and it pushes the seal closer to the window by a mm or 2 and bingo much quieter, but still needs sorting properly. Other bonus was fitting the override to the 2nd fan so I can switch it on as I approach a queue and before the temp heads past midway. Worked a treat even in lengthy queues, temp gauge sat bang on mid way.. clap

The refurbed wheels make the car look much sharper already, the Pirelli tyres inspire a bit more confidence for those B road blasts (this was before the British GP :-)), and the interior smells a whole lot better after a through clean and "shake n vac" but sadly the "modified" rear pipes made no difference at all :-( I need to try harder to release the V12 howl as I disappointed a French border control guard who said "make some noise please..." and I'm afraid it wasn't too impressive (I needed my old VXR8 with Wortec really !)

Next stop Goodwood FOS after I have cleared my Third World debt rivaling overdraft accumulated at French fuel stations !

With V12 music you don't need the CD autochanger.

10 out of 10 for bravery and a well deserved victory.
