Headlights on so I can be seen and safe, if everyone does it you wont be seen or any safer.

Shaking head - just not worth commenting any further.
I tell you what, let's swap cars for a week and then tell us how you feel about having headlights on all the time.

I forget that their on.I work nights so pretty much leave the lights in the on position, the car turns them off with no sidelights left on when Ignition off and door opened.
When I start the car the lights come on,many a time I have driven around on a sunny day with my lights on.Just forgotten that they are in the on position.

My car's automatic lights occasionally switch themselves on when the differential light front to rear is high (e.g if there is bright sunlight shining on the rear of the car and the front is in its own shadow).

Maybe some of them are like that?
That explains what mine did today. I was out at 5am heading West and wodered why the liights stayed on.

My car has sidelights on all the time being old and Swedish. I'm not a big fan of daytime dipped main beam as I also ride a motorcycle and would rather bikes stood out more than got lost in the mix of everyone having their headlights on...

Always have my lights on, they go off with the ignition so never touch the switch.

I think it makes the care more visible so will stick with it.

What is going wrong with the country when people are so afraid of someone smashing into their car due to others poor observation that they decide to put their bloody lights on, half of which aren't aligned properly anyway, and subsequently 'make sure they are seen' by blasting other peoples retinas.

If the driving standards taught proper observation then this wouldn't be neccessary.

Also cars with 'self levelling xenons' or whatever they are called are also rubbish particularly on hills.

No wonder it's considered dangerous riding a bike when even PHers feel the need to drive with headlights on so people can see their car. Sorry ranting over, off soapbox

My 2004 Volvo uses the dipped beam as DRLs and are switched on all the time.
Same on my '03 S60.

-Off position is dipped beam.
-Sidelight position puts on sidelights instead of dipped beam.
-On position is dipped beam.

Only difference between On and Off is that Off doesn't let the full beam stay on.

this tbh. I personally like to be able to see out my mirrors without having my retinas burned out. The worst culprit was an Audi 4x4 thing that had LEDs so bright I had to put the filter on my rear-view and I could still see the afterglow when I blinked. to put it bluntly if you can't see a 10 foot long, 1 ton lump of metal in broad daylight you should get a bus pass!

Have you evidence for that viewpoint? For example, in countries where DRLs have been law for years, do their accidents stats match your assertion? Should be pretty easy to research.
