RE: Aggressive pricing for new Ford Focus ST

Please, no new RS unless all four wheels are driven and it loses 200kilos. The current RS is way too heavy despite looking the part.
Not sure how they would lose 200kgs AND make it 4wd. Keeping it at the same weight with 4wd would be pretty difficult to start with.Unless they make it out of CF and titanium of course...

Can't see the Mustang having anything to do with it.
Does nobody remember the Capri rumours / renderings? I think this will be the 3 door.

Edit: I can see some good lease deals coming up. Convenient timing for me.
That article's from 2010 - the coupe concept they showed was the Evos which just served to show off where the design trend was going for the next round of facelifts. Google 'Ford Evos' and '2013 Ford Fusion' to see what I mean. Same deal with the 'Ford Iosis Concept' and the 2006-2012 'kinetic design' style.Does nobody remember the Capri rumours / renderings? They seem to have a "the new Capri" rumour every 5 years - I remember one in the paper from when I was about 10 years old.
Having driven a 125ps and a 150ps ecoboost version of the new focus I have high hopes that the ST will be a cracking steer, the lesser foci certainly don't feel heavy and the ecoboost is a very good motor. It still doesn't have the fizz that the MK1 focus had, but it feels more playful than the MK2 without losing any of the things that made both cars a great steer.

Yeah it was just the first article I came across but with no signs of a 3 door focus plus competition elsewhere from the scirocco, Astra Coupe, Megane Coupe etc I can't see how Ford can afford to miss out. Unless they'll go for a smaller hardcore Fiesta RS seen as this is the model currently being thrown about by the WRC boys??

More than 50% more expensive than the base model (on which Ford presumably make a profit), yeah, awesome value for money.
When you put it like that it is a bit expensive. Would be good if they sold a base spec car with the ST engine, brakes and suspension, nicer than standard seats and smaller wheels. They could even include basic push button AC and then offer you a choice of options.

FYI
this will not come in 3 doors!!
shame, they will lose quite a few buyers for it
Quite (Although a Ford salesman tried telling me a 3door was in the works). As much as I like Ford's ST range, no 3-door option will put me right off the new Focus, although with the new Fiesta being such a large(ish) car, maybe people going from the old Focus will go into the new Fiesta if they desire 3door?this will not come in 3 doors!!

I want to hear of a new Mondeo ST

Where'd you get that from? As far as I can find, the only electric Focus is a normal-looking model coming here later in the year

Word was that no 3-door is due because of poor demand - presumably that means no US demand, what with it being a global car and all.
Even the Fiesta ST is meant to be 5-door only in the US
I remember reading somewhere that the 'traditional' 3 door C-segment hatches just don't really sell anymore (relatively speaking). That's why we're seeing Astra and Megane 3-door 'coupes', that are fairly different from the 5-door models. Presumably Ford will do a similar thing with the Evos/Capri/whatever. Is there a 3-door new Civic? 308? C4? (No, really. I don't actually know, but can;t think of seeing any)...http://www.worldcarfans.com/110120229861/ford-squa...

I believe the development cost of those parts is what's being recouped in the pricing of the ST.Would be good if they sold a base spec car with the ST engine, brakes and suspension, nicer than standard seats and smaller wheels. Any part shared with the rest of the range will have already been developed and priced before the ST was given the green light, so the extra cost to Ford is in the development and testing of any part that deviates from the rest - that is, all of the bits which make the ST an ST.
I believe the odd perception people have of value for money is the reason for the pricing
I only point this out because I find it unfathomable that people will look at a relatively low volume (or even seriously low volume) sports car for little more than this car and whinge about the price, but offer them something which is substantially the same as a car Ford can flog for peanuts and they will just look at the headline power figure and ejaculate in their trousers.
I actually have no problem with the pricing if Ford reckon they can get away with it, I'm just amused by people's reactions.

Exactly, so if coupes have more scope for success the further they are removed from the 5-door sibling, then it would make sense to have a separate model to serve a different market sector that does still show strength.http://www.worldcarfans.com/112050844112/2015-ford...
A European Mustang would fit the bill perfectly. Dropping the Euro engines into a cheaper rival to the 3 Series, but a cut above the Astra/Megane/Scirocco could make alot of sense, assuming they can make the branding work.
Ford has been working on shifting its image upmarket recently, so with 2 years of brand development before all this becomes relevant, perhaps they can make it a success.

Why does the number of doors matter? If you want a really stiff shell you shouldn't be buying hot hatchbacks anyway.
With 4 / 5 seats, large boot space, decent economy, decent price what else is there? I would hazard that the 3 / 5 door argument is more a case of aesthetics than function / stiffnes.
